Well Cottage

Photo: Well Cottage

Well Cottage is a Grade II listed thatched property in Rutland, near Oakham. You enter into a living room with a woodburning stove and Smart TV, leading through to a combined kitchen and dining space fitted with an electric range, dishwasher and washer-dryer. There's also a conservatory. Upstairs are two bedrooms, each with a zip-and-link bed that can be configured as either a super king or twin, and a bathroom with bath, shower and heated towel rail. The essentials—heating, electricity, bed linen, towels and wifi—are included. One dog stays free of charge, and there's an enclosed garden with courtyard, furniture and barbecue for guests to use.

The cottage sits in a village setting with the local pub 200 yards away and a shop at 70 yards. Rutland Water lies 5 miles off, offering sailing, canoeing, windsurfing and birdwatching, while Oakham and Uppingham provide market-town shopping and dining nearby. A scatter of castles and stately homes dot the region within driving distance—Burghley House (14 miles), Belvoir Castle (23 miles) and several others. Private parking for four cars is on site.

A premium, thatched, stone cottage in the attractive Rutland village of Cottesmore. Owners live nearby, are very helpful and give you a really good welcome. Plenty of extra touches when you arrive. Lovely kitchen and large conservatory. Large cozy lounge. Two large double bedrooms upstairs and a bathroom with loo in between. We've stayed here twice now, once in January 2026 and again, recently in June 2026 for a week. We'd come again, quite happily, as there's plenty to do in the area. Good parking onsite, good pub walking distance away and a decent village shop even nearer. Large Central Co-op supermarket is a short drive away, on the edge of Oakham. All in all, a great place to stay and I'm giving it 5-stars and would recommend it.

Beautifully presented with no expense spared, milk, biscuits and wine awaiting on arrival and even a biscuit for the dog! Enjoyed four nights with friends, couldn't have asked for anything better to make our stay more comfortable or enjoyable. Would definitely recommend
