A 17-room pub-hotel on Chapel Street in Salford, with a lively bar downstairs and Salford Central just half a mile away.
About The Black Lion Hotel
The Black Lion Hotel is built around its ground-floor pub, and that lively atmosphere is the first thing you notice when you arrive at 65 Chapel Street in Salford. It's a straightforward, characterful set-up: 17 rooms sit above a working bar and restaurant, so guests get a proper night out downstairs without needing to go far to find one. The trade-off is that rooms close to the action can pick up noise from the pub below, worth bearing in mind if you want an early night.
Rooms themselves are clean, modern and well looked after, with comfortable beds, and breakfast in the morning offers a good range of choices. Staff are friendly and helpful, and the whole place runs at a price that feels good value. Facilities extend to free WiFi, a garden, luggage storage, laundry service, meeting rooms, 24-hour reception and free on-site parking, along with airport parking or transfer options for those heading further afield.
Salford Central station is about half a mile away, useful for exploring the wider city, and the immediate area has further pubs, bars and restaurants within easy reach. It's a practical base with a genuine local pub feel rather than a polished corporate stay.

What guests say
Stayed for 2 nights this weekend for a gig at the Albert Hall. Great location, within 15 mins walking distance of city centre (£7 by Uber to Piccadilly station). Our room was very spacious and immaculately clean. It faced the back of the building so was very quiet. Ed the manager could not have been more helpful! Amazing value for Manchester considering that (a very tasty) breakfast is also included. The pub itself seemed very welcoming. Will definitely stay next time we are in Manchester.

Absolutely unacceptable experience. I was given a room on the first floor directly under/next to the bar, where live music was playing. From inside my room I could clearly hear a man singing and playing guitar, as if the bar was practically inside the room. It was impossible to relax, rest, or sleep. The most frustrating part is that the manager initially told me the music would stop after 9 pm. Later it turned out that this was not true — the music would only be turned down slightly. This is misleading and completely unprofessional. A hotel room should provide basic comfort and the possibility to sleep. Selling rooms affected by loud bar noise without properly warning guests is unacceptable. If the hotel knows these rooms are noisy, they should not be offered as normal guest rooms, or guests should be clearly informed before booking. I strongly do not recommend this hotel. If you value sleep, peace, or basic respect as a guest, avoid this place. There is a real risk that you will be placed in a room where you can hear live music from the bar and will not be able to rest properly.

Booked through 3rd party for a concert at AO arena, nicely situated to parking and main street. Friendly bar/reception check in. Hotel stairwell & corridors inviting, clean & great decor of Mancunian highlights. Room great size, all facilities you could need such a hairdryer, ironing board & iron, tea/coffee facilities and fan. Only downside was no chef for breakfast, so had to walk 5 minutes to sister hotel. Cooked breakfast was terrible; overcooked egg. Hoping if it was at The Black Lion, it would have been perfect, but we'll never know! All in all, nice stay.
