About Royal Hotel Scarborough

Scarborough Castle and South Bay Beach are both within walking distance of the Royal Hotel Scarborough, along with the town's pubs, restaurants and entertainment venues. Golf, fishing and watersports are also nearby, making this a practical base for exploring the coast without needing a car, though chargeable on-site parking is available for those who bring one.

The hotel itself has 159 rooms spread across five floors, with a lift for access, family and accessible rooms, en-suite bathrooms and drinks available in-room. Guests can eat at the on-site restaurant, with kids' meals on offer and breakfast included, or head to the bar in the evening. There's also a gym, and meeting rooms for those combining business with a seaside stay. Pets are welcome too.

Staff are generally helpful, and the location and value for money are the hotel's strongest points, but some rooms have been found poorly kept, so it's worth setting expectations accordingly. For a well-placed stay near the castle and beach, it still does the job.

This place is a gem. We got a last minute room which was great for the price and although there was a bit of wear and tear (which is expected with an old building) we were blown away with our stay. We enjoyed the homely feel of the entire hotel, the architecture and lounge rooms were gorgeously decorated, we also like the carpets as they add so much character to the building! The staff were kind, friendly and helpful throughout. The place did have tiny spots of mold in the sealant of the bath/ pool shower but this didn't bother us much as this can happen anywhere it just needs re-sealing. Aside from that it was very clean and provides everything you need. Our beds had lovely clean bed sheets and comfortable matresses. Children loved the pool which was heated perfectly and we had hours of fun in there. The hotel is so close to the beach too, we can't complain at all for such a great price as well. I also felt very safe here, there was plenty of security cameras and the doors felt secure. We honestly didn't want to leave here as we had such a great time and slept so well, we are already planning our next stay and cannot wait to come back 😊 I'm surprised by any negative reviews about cleanliness as we found it to be very clean and the hotel should be proud of that. Thank you to all the staff here especially the cleaning staff who do a great job at maintaining such a large hotel and still remain polite and friendly to the guests. 💚

We booked for two nights last weekend and we went on price as it was a little treat so was not expecting much for the money we paid. Well I have say we were pleasantly surprised, so much so we stopped an extra night. The hotel and room were clean tidy and the bed was so comfortable. We had dogs with us but this not stop us from been able to have Sunday Lunch or Breakfast. Very accommodating, all the staff we came in contact with were very friendly and helpful.

I was nervous booking this hotel after reading reviews. First time at this hotel the room was nice sea view 307 had breakfast and wifi included. The staff were very friendly and hardworking in the restaurant and made me relaxed as a single traveller. Will definitely be coming back.

Hotle was reasonably priced for room. Walkways upstairs were not vacuumed very messy. Staff on reception was not helpful I didn't see them putting enough effort in to welcoming the guests. Getting to the beach was a mission as the hotle is on a cliff and lots of stair to get to the beach. There is a tram facility thata cost £2.60 return ticket. Overall not happy with the service. Probably won't book this place again
