The Grand Hotel Scarborough

When we booked this hotel we were, to be honest, not expecting much, as the reviews are pretty poor. And yes, there are a few problems - a long queue to check in, only 1 lift working, so again a queue, and various sections of decorating - often caused by damp - needing doing, and for me the worst - no soap in the room. BUT the room was spotlessly clean, everything you needed (except soap) was there, including a fan, ample tea and coffee and comfy beds. The room had a nice view (although not facing the sea front) and was fairly quiet. (although some residents insist on slamming doors). The food was good, with a varied selection of food, both for breakfast and dinner. In the evening, the view from the sundeck, happily enjoying a drink, was second to none. There are some beautiful sections of the hotel - the library, staircase, etc. And the location is perfect. So yes, there are a few problems, but if you take your own soap I would recommend you book here. We certainly will do again.

The Grand Hotel that is anything but grand. Very poor hotel. Rooms dated, dirty and dismal. Booked an executive room with sea views…..turned out to be a dark, tiny room that smelled of urine. We were moved to a family executive room……better in size but that’s all. Damp peeling wallpaper, no main light working (we did get repaired) and shower in room above leaking through our bathroom ceiling light! Stayed 4 nights without room being cleaned. No clean cups ,no replacement of tea, coffee or milk. I’ve never stayed at a hotel that doesn’t clean room or make beds and refresh towels. Let alone renew refreshments! Food was extremely poor, cheap and basic. Lack of staff, especially as there were so many people complaining. Architecture and location were great, however we will definitely NOT return.

Initially I thought this place was amazing? Until I tried to sleep ! Value for money was second to none . And hospitality was on point too 🥰 but ....that place is haunted beyond belief 😳I've never been so scared in my life ! It was over 7 years ago when I stayed there , and it still plays on my mind . If you do go there ? Don't go to the toilet ( in the reception ) area that points down to the dungeon area 😳 I felt a nasty prescents. There .

£318 for two nights with breakfast – extremely poor value for money. We stayed for two nights and paid £318, expecting a reasonable standard for the price. Unfortunately, this was one of the most disappointing hotel stays we have experienced. The room was very dated and poorly maintained. The bathtub was old, heavily scratched, stained and looked unhygienic. There was visible dust and dirt under the bed, which suggests the room had not been cleaned thoroughly. The area outside our window was particularly disturbing. There were bird nests, feathers and what appeared to be the remains of a dead bird outside the window. A strong unpleasant smell was coming into our room from this area, and we could hear birds throughout the night, making it very difficult to sleep. The window itself was also extremely dirty. The room was unbearably hot during 26°C weather, and the only cooling provided was a small, old and very noisy fan, which did little to improve the situation. The bathroom did not provide even basic toiletries such as shampoo or body wash. Breakfast was disappointing. The breakfast area felt disorganised, and the quality of the food was well below our expectations. The photographs on the hotel’s website did not accurately reflect the actual condition of the room or the hotel. Our experience was completely different from what was advertised online. In addition, only one of the hotel’s two small lifts was working during our stay. We were so uncomfortable and disappointed that we decided to leave after the first night, even though we had already paid for two nights. Based on our experience, this hotel represented extremely poor value for money. We have attached photographs of the dirty window and the lack of cleanliness under the bed to support our review. We would not choose to stay here again, and we hope the hotel addresses these issues for future guests.
