About Wrea Head Hall Hotel

Wrea Head Hall is a Victorian country house set in its own grounds at Scalby, on the northern edge of Scarborough where the town gives way to the North York Moors National Park. Built in 1881, the hall keeps much of its original character - oak panelling, stained glass and open fires feature through the public rooms - while operating as an independently run hotel rather than a chain property.

The setting is the main difference from Scarborough's seafront hotels: acres of private grounds, mature trees and gardens rather than a promenade, with the coast and North Bay a short drive rather than a walk away. The Wrea restaurant serves in the hall's dining rooms, drawing on the quieter, more rural feel of the grounds.

It suits couples looking for a country-house stay with more space and privacy than a seafront hotel, or visitors planning to spend as much time walking the Moors and Forge Valley as they do on Scarborough's beaches.

We had a lovely 3 night stay for my husband’s birthday. The room was comfortable and spotlessly clean. The food was lovely well presented. Most of all I would like to thank the staff who are so helpful in catering for everyone’s needs. And looking after us. Even down to my hubbys birthday pudding. This was our 2nd stay and we will be back again. Thankyou to everyone at Wrea Head Hall. For making our stay an enjoyable experience

The hotel is in a beautiful setting, the staff on arrival were excellent we were too early to check in to our room, however we wanted something to eat and ordered sandwiches and a couple of glasses of wine and sat in the gardens which were really nice. The sandwiches were well presented and were OK , a gardener started mowing the lawns while we were eating and the noise at times was a bit deafening, but didn't spoil the atmosphere. The room was reasonably alright however it had no air-conditioning, no fridge and no safe. The bathroom didn't have face cloths so had to use a towel to soap oneself. The tv kept losing it's signal so a lot of channels were breaking up or not functioning. I would say this is a nice hotel but we probably wouldn't stay there again.

Perfect stay from start to finish. Lovely setting in beautiful grounds. Just over an hour to walk into Scarborough or around a 5 minute drive. We stayed in room 18 which was beautifully decorated, and comfortable and cosy with a lovely view. We had breakfast and evening meals included and both were fantastic so massive compliments to the chef! All the staff, although young, were amazing and looked after everyone perfectly. Prices in the bar were very reasonable too. We would definitely recommend and will definitely be returning!
