St Abbs Lighthouse Cottages - St Abbs The Flag House
Scottish Borders
View on Google MapsThe Flag House stands on the cliff edge at St Abbs Head, where the sea is visible from almost every corner. A short flight of steps leads to a compact ground-floor space: living area and kitchen in open plan, with a dining table positioned to face the water. A sofa bed sleeps two, and there is a shower room with a walk-in shower. Electricity, heating, bed linen, towels and wifi are included. One car can park on site.
The cottage was originally a storage building for the lighthouse flags, and the location—twenty-one yards from fenced cliffs—explains why views dominate the experience here. This is the kind of place where waking to the sea becomes the holiday itself. A small sitting area outside makes use of the exposure. The nearest shop, pub and restaurant are three miles away in Eyemouth. Smoking is not permitted indoors.

What guests say
What a lovely holiday in this unique location. The cottage was modern, spacious, warm and well equipped with views of the sunrise and sunsets. The wildlife all come to say hello from badgers to deer, hares to Gannet's and whales and dolphins have been seen but they were a no show for us. The road up to the lighthouse was narrow but scenic and we spent hours sitting in our own sheltered and secluded Pertico Bay. Walking to St Abbs, breakfast at the nature centre and golf courses to die for are all on my 'must do' list. If you need escapism, to switch off from the busy world, then I can't recommend this place enough.
