Lighthouse Retreat is a ground-floor cottage at St Abbs, the small fishing village on the Scottish Borders coast near Eyemouth. Everything you need for a self-catering break is provided: electricity and heating are covered, bed linen and towels come as standard, and Wi-Fi keeps you connected. The kitchen is fully equipped for cooking—oven, hob, microwave, dishwasher and washing machine all there—so you can eat in or venture out to the shop, pub or restaurant a few miles away.
The accommodation sits on one level with two bedrooms (one double, one with twin singles) and a bathroom with a bath and shower. The living and dining areas open from the entrance via a storm door. There is a partial sea view from the lounge. Parking for two cars is on site. No smoking inside. The setting takes in St Abbs Head, a dramatic stretch of protected coastline where the terrain draws walkers and birdwatchers throughout the year.

What a lovely holiday in this unique location. The cottage was modern, spacious, warm and well equipped with views of the sunrise and sunsets. The wildlife all come to say hello from badgers to deer, hares to Gannet's and whales and dolphins have been seen but they were a no show for us. The road up to the lighthouse was narrow but scenic and we spent hours sitting in our own sheltered and secluded Pertico Bay. Walking to St Abbs, breakfast at the nature centre and golf courses to die for are all on my 'must do' list. If you need escapism, to switch off from the busy world, then I can't recommend this place enough.
