The Five Turrets

Scottish Borders

Selkirk sits in a valley where the Scottish Borders open out towards walking country, fishing rivers and forest trails. The town itself is compact enough to navigate on foot, yet positioned within reach of activities that draw people to this corner of Scotland year-round. The Five Turrets, a Grade B listed townhouse from the 1870s, commands the skyline with its architectural signature—the five turrets that give it its name, visible from across the surrounding hills.

The house itself has been extensively renovated to combine period character with modern comfort. Inside, a triple-height living space anchors the accommodation, with a wood burner, substantial dining table and multiple seating areas for groups to spread out or gather as they prefer. The kitchen is fully equipped for serious cooking. Upstairs, four bedrooms and two bathrooms serve eight guests. One bedroom includes a small turret room with a reading chair—a characterful detail in a property decorated throughout with artwork, textiles and carefully chosen furniture. A separate mezzanine library offers a quieter retreat, complete with a substantial television and comfortable seating. Bed linen, towels and wifi are provided; there is parking on the property and no smoking indoors.

From here, you can walk to Selkirk's centre within minutes. Beyond town, the River Tweed system is known for fly fishing, the 7 Stanes mountain biking network includes Glentress Forest nearby, and numerous trails cater to walkers of varying distances. The locality also supports a golf course, and various activity companies can arrange everything from wildlife tours to alpaca walking experiences.

Everything was clean and spotless upon arrival and there were local treats and coffee waiting for us upon arrival. The kitchen facilities were modern and made cooking and eating in for breakfast really convenient. There was a dishwasher, washing machine, and dryer. The two king beds on the main level and 2 queen size beds upstairs were very comfy. Easy entry instructions were provided and the hosts were responsive. The view from the back window overlooking the countryside were stunning. The location is great to access via public bus from the train station. I’d absolutely stay here again if in the area. There are two grocery stores in walking distance. There are local restaurants in walking distance as well but you may need a reservation at the pub and confirm their opening days/times as many places were closed the week we were there.

We stayed at The Five Turrets in Selkirk in mid- May, with a large family group of 8, for a 3 night stay. Gethin welcomed us and took the time to get to know our group a bit, explaining the building and the area. The welcome book is exceptional and explains everything you need to know, which is so appreciated. What a fabulous place, everything provided, we cooked most nights and loved it. I cannot recommend Five Turrets too highly, it is an exceptional place and perfectly-placed for exploring the Borders. We're already planning on returning 😀

We absolutely loved our stay at Five Turrets - what a gem! We were two families and found that there was ample space so that we didn't feel on top of one another. The owners very helpfully put a mattress on the floor in one of the larger twin rooms so that three boys could go in together (which they loved) and it still left plenty of space. The beautiful living area was fantastic - the kids loved hanging out on the mezzanine whilst the adults relaxed around the lovely large table admiring the view. It was the best equipped holiday home I have ever stayed in with every wish catered for - even a diffuser for my curly hair which I've never had! The location is brilliant, a few minutes walk to lovely retaurants and the shops of Selkirk which is charming but not twee. Dinner catered for us at Five Turrets from the chef at No. 1 was a highlight! Cannot recommend highly enough. Thank you!
