About Roulotte Retreat
Tucked into the Scottish Borders countryside near Melrose, Roulotte Retreat offers a single, exquisitely carved French roulotte for couples seeking something truly distinctive. Magnificently decorated in art deco style with Celtic knotwork, horses and wildflowers, the wagon is enveloped in rich purples, reds and golds that evoke Morocco. Inside you'll find a wood-burning stove, hand-crafted Indian rug, whimsical lamps and a boudoir with a sparkly ceiling, velvet throws and silk sari curtains. The kitchen area includes a Baby Belling oven, while a modern shower room sits just steps away.
Outside, a balcony and meadow seating overlook the lochan, perfect for birdwatching or stargazing under famously dark skies. With garden furniture, campfires allowed and eco fuel provided, it's a peaceful, adults-only retreat surrounded by forest and wildlife. The location puts walking, cycling, fishing and climbing all within easy reach, and there's a farmers' market nearby for provisions. A two-night minimum stay applies.

After two nights at the Roulotte Retreat we didn't want to go home. What a fantastic place to unwind and chill out. The roulottes are each in their own wildlife meadow and are havens of privacy and peace. We loved the individual characters of the roulottes with their sumptuous interiors with so many quirky touches. They were spotlessly clean and very well equipped with everything you would need for a break away from the fast paced world, yet the WiFi and phone signal was good. The outdoor wood fired hot tub was gorgeous with it's views across the fields and the copper baths were so relaxing. The owners Avril and Alan couldn't have been more friendly and helpful with lots of suggestions of where to wild swim and even walk alpacas. Thank you so much for a little piece of paradise.

We had the most amazing stay at Roulotte Retreat a couple of weeks ago. Such a magical and peaceful place; exactly what we needed to recharge and get away from it all. We chose to stay in Maharani which has a fantastic eco sauna, which we think is well worth the investment. It is positioned so that it looks out over the fields - you can enjoy the sunset, and viewing nature whilst enjoying the warmth. The Roulotte was spotlessly clean, has everything you would need for your stay, and the shower was powerful too. Only a ten minutes drive to Melrose Centre. Would highly recommend to all of my friends/family, and to anyone looking for a special break away.

It is one of those places you are not sure first, but then, you don’t want to leave. It’s tiny living with an adorable, quirky, vintage Indian twist where you have everything you really need in the heart of meadows and forests with all those incredible scents of spring/summer nature. You can sleep in an open window and enjoy privacy if you want to. If weather is cooler the sauna is just another extra thing you can enjoy. You feel like you are in a movie set all along.
