About Cragg Hill Farm

Well, isn't this a rather fine rural setting – on the banks of the River Ribble and within easy rambling distance of restorative pints at one of Horton-in-Ribblesdale's three country pubs. Cragg Hill Farm sits in the Yorkshire Dales National Park, and the views from this peaceful spot won't let you forget it for a second. Gaze in one direction and you'll hopefully see Pen-y-Ghent towering over the site; turn the other way and you might catch a glimpse of Settle-Carlisle Railway trains wending their way through the scenic surrounds.

Settle is a 15-minute drive south – handy for supermarket supplies, or perhaps a swim or round of golf. Otherwise, the Yorkshire Dales are right on your doorstep for roaming, or you could head to the coast at Morecambe, an hour away, if you're yearning for sea air. Back at the farm, life is wonderfully laidback, with just toilets, hot showers and a washing-up area to keep you and your kit clean – no frills, but that's rather the point when you've got Pen-y-Ghent for company.

What visitors say

This was our second visit to the campsite, but after the way we were treated on arrival, it will absolutely be our last. We had booked alongside a group of friends, with each family making their own individual booking. When we arrived, we began setting up so that we could pitch near one another. We accept that the campsite rules require guests to pay before pitching. Had this been explained to us politely, we would have apologised, stopped immediately and gone to pay without any issue. Instead, we were confronted by an extremely angry and hostile man who demanded to know who the organiser of our group was. There was no organiser because we had all booked separately. When we tried to explain, he stood shouting in our faces, visibly shaking with anger and threatening to throw us off the campsite if we did not go and pay immediately. The level of aggression was completely unnecessary and left several adults shocked and upset. The children with us were also distressed by seeing an angry man shouting at their parents and other members of the group. This was not a minor disagreement or a simple misunderstanding. It was an intimidating and deeply unpleasant encounter that ruined the start of our weekend and made us feel completely unwelcome. All that was needed was a calm request for us to stop pitching and go to the house to pay. Instead, we were treated with hostility, aggression and a complete lack of basic courtesy or hospitality. Regardless of the location or facilities, no guest should be spoken to in this way. The behaviour we experienced was unacceptable, and I would not feel comfortable returning with my family or recommending that others stay here. Regrettably, I could not recommend this campsite. 1*

Lovely quiet campsite 5 minutes drive outside of Horton in Ribblesdale. Lots of space in the multiple fields, toilets and washing facilities are only a short walk away. Showers are located at one end of the site, so can be a trek if you're at the other side.

Me and friends motorbike camped for our first time on an august weekend lovely weather the campsite was well maintained and clean showers was nice and clean and so was the toilets with toilet roll! my only issue was the toilet block light wasn't working (no bulb) but apart from that it was clean. very peaceful area, lovely views and owners/workers very polite and helpful! me and my friends said we would definitely stay again in the future!

Very basic site. But for the price it's well worth it. Showers, toilet and washroom nice and clean. However the hosts never introduced themselves nor asked if everything was ok. Would I go back..it'll probably be a no.
