What visitors say
We highly recommend Elmley National Nature Reserve as a wedding venue. Stephanie is professional, highly organised, experienced and and very caring in how she looked after us and all our guests on the weekend. All of the team are lovely. The venue feels extremely well prepared for attendees different needs, they felt like a safe pair of hands. They coordinated the day's flow very well and made us all feel comfortable. The accommodation is completely gorgeous and impressive, the cottages, shepherds huts and tents are stunningly designed, decorated and very clean. Each room feels individual, special considered in its design. There is immense attention to detail. The shepherds huts are so cute and well designed, they have outside baths and hot showers, our guests were overjoyed to stay there. The views are stunning and there is a private beach to swim in and trails to walk. As a wedding venue it offered us everything we wanted as well as activities for people staying over who wanted to explore. The grounds are incredible. Elmley were also very responsible in informing us what to be mindful of / what not to do / how to treat the grounds and being mindful of the wildlife, which we passed onto our guests. Additionally, all the suppliers that they had recommended tended to have a strong emphasis on sustainability, which we really liked. We were there for our special occasion but know that some people go enjoy weekends camping and bird watching. All our guests loved the wedding and commented on how magical and unique the venue is. Everyone was buzzing at how fun the wedding was, Elmley was a brilliant place to do it.

We stayed overnight in a Shepherd’s Hut which was well laid out and has an en suite shower and toilet. As this is an “off grid” experience, the only electricity is for the lights. There are no plug points and no WiFi. The kettle can only be heated on top of the log burner. If there was meant to be any hot water in the shower, didn’t get any. Breakfast and evening meals can be ordered and delivered to your accommodation. Marshmallows are provided which can be toasted over the fire pit - unfortunately due to the 42mph winds, we could not take advantage of this! The nature reserve is vast, with set paths where different birds can be seen dependent on time of year. There are also hares to be seen. This is a different and interesting experience which we really enjoyed. The only issues we had were with communication. We only ever got a recorded message on the mobile number quoted on the website and couldn’t leave a message. Requests via email and messages on our booking page were only responded to after 24 hours and we hadn’t received our instruction email when we should have which did cause a bit of stress.

Had a wonderful stay at Elmley Nature Reserve. The shepherd's hut was lovely and had everything I needed to make my stay comfortable and relaxing - just sitting with a coffee (delicious) and looking out over the view was a perfect to unwind. All the staff without fail were friendly and welcoming. I also had a wonderful healing massage with Sarah in the Elmley Wellness centre. I can highly recommend booking a treatment when staying at the reserve as Sarah was excellent, the massage wonderful and the centre calming and relaxing.

Recently had a two night stay at Elmley. We picked the 'Roost' on recommendation. We were not disappointed! Everything required for a bird watching fest. Excellent parking & disabled access & toilets. Simple check in/out. Tea & coffee provided. We took our own food/snacks & ate out in villages. Alternatively, you could pre-order dinner/breakfast. Fabulous views, copious bird, owl, ducks & hare sightings. Hides, clean, well appointed with various views across the marshes. Sitting on our well appointed deck with fire pit (wood included) we didn't need the hides- saw everything from our cosy, private spot. Even from the outside bath! Sunrises were spectacular (granted the weather played ball) sunsets; lazy and equally stunning. Highly recommend a few nights to get away from the rat race & just steep yourself in pure nature.
