What visitors say
A beautifully maintained steam railway. Note: there are some services pulled by diesel engines. Info is clear as to which services. The 2 main stations are charming. A little cafe at one. An interesting museum. Some model train sets running in an exhibition space. A big shop with some very interesting products. Many different carriage types pulled by the loco. I’ve shown only one in my photos. Blisteringly hot on board on a recent visit, that couldn’t be helped! Wildly expensive tickets now (£24pp if I remember rightly). I recall going many times (20 odd years ago) and it was very cheap. Do check the ticket prices as a big family trip might bankrupt you.

We travelled on this lovely steam train between Christmas and New Year on their "Mince Pie Special" train leaving from Sheringham. We had pre-booked our tickets online and check in at the station was quick and efficient. We loved the carriages and their old world charm. Once we got on the way, staff came around with hot chocolate/hot cider and mince pies. Both of which were delicious. In Holt there was plenty of time to explore the station and watch the locomotive change over before the train headed back to Sheringham. Overall, we had a great time and would highly recommend this.

I loved travelling on the router of carriage I used to take in the 1980s. That was actually more fun than the steam train for me! Each station has things to see, so if you can, stop off at each. The only issue is the trains are roughly once an hour, so this means you'll need to allow just over 3 hours for you visit. Park at Holt as it's cheaper and "all day", not "pay and display" where you have to guess how long you'll need.

We recently visited the North Norfolk Railway during a short break locally and had a thoroughly enjoyable day. We purchased rover tickets online for £46.64 for two adults, which allowed unlimited travel throughout the day. We were however a little surprised that our tickets weren’t checked at any point. We chose to park at Holt, where parking is free, although a £3 donation is suggested. From there, we took the steam train to Sheringham — a lovely seaside town with plenty of cafés, bars, and a beautiful beach. However, there is limited beach access for dogs between May to September. While in Sheringham, we also visited the Sheringham Museum, which we would highly recommend. After a great day exploring, we caught the late afternoon diesel train back to Holt. Overall, a fantastic experience that we’d happily recommend to others.
