From muddling down bridleways and forest trails to pottering around Victorian King's Lynn or the quaysides of nearby Wells-next-the-Sea, you'll find Norfolk's breadth within easy reach of Abbey Farm Holidays. This family-run site sits quietly in East Walton, one of three villages on the Westacre Estate, where a rewilding project surrounds the campsite – expect wild ponies, cattle, pigs and other native species on your wanders. The site itself welcomes horses as well as dogs, and the owners can point riders towards the best routes threading through the estate's footpaths and bridleways.
Facilities are modest but practical: a shower, toilet, small kitchen area with fridge, microwave and washing-up facilities, plus an on-site fishing pond stocked with tench, roach, perch and carp. Campfires and barbecues are allowed, and with just a handful of pitches, the atmosphere stays peaceful. A couple of decent pubs lie within five minutes' drive for those evenings when you'd rather not cook. It's a genuinely cosy, low-key base – ideal if you're after genuine countryside quiet rather than manicured polish.

We stayed in Priory Cottage for a weekend to celebrate my fathers birthday. Louise is an outstanding host, making sure we had everything we needed (including a birthday cake) to enjoy our celebratory short break.
