What diners say
The food at this small Mediterranean inspired institution is indeed very good! The beef tartare is one of the best ones in London and the brill meunière is fabulous (i could soak up the sauce with bread, all day). I also liked sitting at the window counter and looking out at Shoreditch. Not exactly cheap, but a nice, low key addition to the area.

A shame I couldn’t give 5 stars. Food was good but not to the level expected from sister restaurant of clove club although having said this I wasn’t super impressed by clove club either. The tastiest were the 2 non veg starters (specifically fish on toast and crab tarts). Beef tartare was super super salty. Waiter recommended the pumpkin starter but it was really hard and dry. Would not recommend to order at all. The braised beef and pork chop were good but very small portions for the price. £55 for one pork chop a bit extreme. One of the desserts is just pieces of Comte for like £11 - a bit much too.

It’s fine. Pros: Drinks are good with nice selection of carafe wines Chocolate mousse slaps Cons: Food mostly boring and forgettable Fine dining prices for a more casual experience 15% service charge for regular service The food is cooked well but there’s nothing exciting about it. The prices they’re charging are not justified either. The value proposition is not here, they’re simply riding off the fact that it’s run by The Clove Club. Also, 15% service charge is excessive, even by London standards. Again, Bar Valette is just fine. Which is a damn shame for this kind of pedigree.

This spot is fantastic. My chef friend recommended Bar Valette and it totally delivered. Relaxed vibe with seriously incredible food. The duck egg with morels and jamon was mind-blowing - incredible flavor layers. Snails and mussels? Perfection. Everything seems simple but is so thoughtful and complex. Great wines, knowledgeable but chill service, and such a cozy space. Absolute gem!
