About Big Bear Lodge

Tucked into a spectacularly secluded corner of Shropshire where the Vyrnwy meets the Severn, Big Bear Lodge commands some of the county's finest views – rolling countryside where badgers, foxes and red kites roam, and a resident cuckoo arrives each May. This small, peaceful site (just grass pitches, no electric hook-ups) draws stargazers who relish the total absence of light pollution and wildlife enthusiasts who've spotted woodpeckers, buzzards and tame robins from their pitch. The shower block is compact but thoughtfully done, with rainfall heads and heated towel rails.

Families love the freedom for little ones to run wild, and the 3,500 miles of Shropshire footpaths start practically on your doorstep. Dogs are welcome year-round (on leads), and there's a play area plus barbecue facilities. It's genuinely remote, so those craving creature comforts might find it a touch sparse, but if you want calm, stars and the sound of owls instead of traffic, Big Bear delivers in spades.

Had a lovely camping weekend at Big Bear Lodge. The food really is very good, we had a pizza and a breakfast - the omelette was delicious and a nice touch to have it delivered to your pitch, especially on your last day when you've enough to do without worrying about cooking breakfast. The men's shower was cold most of the time, and the washing up sinks and toilet sinks didn't really give out hot water either. The honesty shop was great and reasonably priced and had all the essentials you could need on a trip. Site itself nice and clean, chickens and ducks on the site. Not that many pitches (around 12), so it's a small, family-orientated site that provided a great, relaxing family break. Would very happily return.

What a lovely find for glamping dead in the middle of the triangle Oswestry-Welshpool-Shrewsbury! On a four day roadtrip we spent one night over in two bell tents (double twins). The tents are well kitted out, bed linnen is provided, but do not forget your towel for the shower :) We made good use of the bbq and fire pit, charcoal and a net of logs are available (honesty box style). If you prefer to order in, Pizza for dinner is an option. You can also book breakfast in advance. All in all a great time for us, highly recommended.

We really enjoyed our stay, everything was as expected and can't complain. The pods are all situated in a sort of semi circle so if you had a rowdy group staying i could see it being an issue as they are all so close together. Breakfast was absolutely beautiful 👌🏻 would highly recommend

I had a wonderful stay at Wolf’s Paw. The place was lovely, but what really stood out was the kindness and helpfulness of the host — they went above and beyond to help me retrieve something I accidentally left behind. Truly appreciated!
