About Travelodge Shrewsbury Battlefield

Rooms at Travelodge Shrewsbury Battlefield are straightforward and comfortable, each with an en-suite bathroom and a custom-designed bed intended to give a decent night's sleep without any frills. Drinks are available in the room, and accessible rooms can be requested for those who need them. With 41 rooms spread across two floors, the hotel keeps things simple and functional, which suits guests after a no-nonsense budget stay rather than a luxury experience.

Beyond the bedroom, facilities are geared towards convenience: free on-site parking (allocated first-come, first-served), an electric vehicle charge point, and 24 hour reception for whenever you arrive. Pets are welcome, so travelling with an animal isn't a problem. There's no restaurant on site, but a pub, bar and eatery are all nearby for food and drink options.

Set by the Battlefield Roundabout near the A49, the hotel is a practical base for reaching Shrewsbury town centre or continuing on towards North Wales, making it a sensible stopover for anyone passing through Shropshire rather than settling in for a long holiday.

Unfortunately, it was the most disappointing and uncomfortable hotel experience I have ever had. The cleanliness of the room was completely unacceptable. The windows were dirty, there was dust throughout the room, the bed sheets were stained, and the bathroom was unhygienic, with heavy limescale build-up, dirty tiles, and hairs on both the tiles and in the bath. I did not feel comfortable walking barefoot on the floor because it was so dirty. The overall maintenance of the room was also very poor. The paintwork was in a terrible condition, only around 10 TV channels were working, and none of the USB or USB-C charging ports on the right-hand side of the bed functioned. I also paid for breakfast, but instead received a very poor breakfast box containing stale cornflakes, a hard pastry, room-temperature milk, a tiny bottle of water, and a flapjack that was so hard it was inedible. This was not what I expected, especially considering the amount I had paid for my stay. To make matters worse, the noise from the road outside was excessive. In the early hours of Saturday morning, I was woken by what sounded like a street-cleaning vehicle, making it impossible to have a relaxing night’s sleep. The location of the hotel is good as near by the town but no nosy as it being on a bypass. For £230 I didn’t expect this, I know it’s not 5 star but seriously.

I’m not a Travelodge fan, but couldn’t fault this one. Pretty new, spotlessly clean room, bedding and towels. Comfy bed. Pub next door and Spar convenience store just across the car park. Quiet too as well back from the road. And about £40 too! What’s not to like?

We were assigned Room 4, which had an overwhelming, wretched smell of urine. Because the room was entirely uninhabitable, we immediately requested a room change. The front desk informed us that the hotel was fully booked, but assured us a refund would be processed once the manager authorized it the following morning. Unfortunately, the morning manager completely ignored the issue and refused to address our request for a room change for our second night. After checking out, we emailed the manager, C. Harvey. He refused to issue a refund, claiming it was our fault because we didn't come see him in person—despite the fact that we had no idea where he was or when he would be available. Blaming the guest for your own team's lack of communication is outrageous. We didn't even get a refund for the un-sleepable first night. Easily one of the worst Travelodges we have ever stayed at. Avoid this branch.

Our room (Room 4) reeked of urine and was completely unmanageable. Night staff couldn't move us, but promised the manager would process a refund the next morning. Instead, the manager (C. Harvey) completely ignored the situation. When emailed later, he refused to refund us—not even for the first night—blaming us for not tracking him down in person, even though his whereabouts were unknown. Despicable customer service and zero accountability. One of the worst Travelodges out there.
