The Coach House

Photo: Henrietta Wylie

Wells sits on the edge of the Brendon Hills, close enough to Exmoor's walking country and the Somerset coast yet surrounded by quiet farmland. The Coach House, a converted 19th-century building, occupies four acres within the owner's larger farm—enough space to let dogs roam freely on lead, with a kennel available if needed. One dog stays free, and there's a bike store for exploring further afield.

The property sleeps six across three bedrooms, each with its own bathroom. Downstairs is a spacious open-plan living area with a woodburner, a separate dining space, and a kitchen fitted with an Aga, dishwasher and all the essentials for cooking from scratch. Upstairs, the bedrooms have zip-and-link beds that can be configured as either doubles or singles. Heating, electricity, bed linen and towels are included, along with wood for the burner and wifi throughout. A games room in an external building offers table tennis, and there's a BBQ for warmer evenings.

The nearest shop is seven miles away and the closest pub three, so this suits people wanting genuine seclusion rather than easy access to amenities. The track leading in is private, and there's a pond on the grounds worth noting if children are visiting. It's a base for exploring Exmoor National Park, reaching Wimbleball Lake for water sports, or driving to the fossil-rich beach at Kilve in around 15 minutes.

Very cozy and rustic cottage, but has modern twists that don't impose on the charm. Loved my stay and would recommend this place.

Lovely quiet place, nicely decorated with plenty of space for two. Great kitchen facilities. Comfy bed. Pleasant cross-country walk to Wells.

Excellent self-catering accommodation in a quiet village near Wells. Very comfortable, with everything that we needed for an amazing four night stay over Christmas. Definitely recommended.
