Braidwood Castle - Orchard Cottage at Braidwood Castle
South Lanarkshire
Orchard Cottage is a stone cottage on the grounds of Braidwood Castle, a 500-year-old fortified tower in the Clyde Valley. Built originally as a bothy for the castle, it now stands alone on a portion of the 1½-acre estate, which you share with other guests. The cottage sits at ground level throughout: a living room with a wood-burning stove, a compact kitchen fitted with electric cooking, a bedroom with a double bed, and a wet room with shower. Heating, electricity, bed linen, towels and WiFi are provided, along with logs for the burner.
Outside, a large enclosed garden with seating looks onto an orchard and the wider grounds, which include lawned areas and a network of paths. A fenced stream runs through the property. You have private parking for two cars and access to a bike store. The cottage suits couples or two people travelling together; one dog is welcome. No smoking inside.
The location puts you 5 miles from Lanark and within reach of the Clyde Valley Woodlands and marked trails through the countryside. The Falls of Clyde and UNESCO New Lanark World Heritage Centre are nearby, and Glasgow is accessible by train from Carluke. A shop sits a mile away, with a pub and restaurant three-quarters of a mile distant.
