About Borthalan House
Borthalan House is a modest, adults-only guesthouse tucked off Boskerris Road in St Ives, with only three rooms to its name. That small scale gives it a down-to-earth, personal feel rather than the polish of a big hotel, and the garden's sea views are one of its best features.
Each room comes with an en-suite bathroom, free WiFi and drinks available in-room, while downstairs there's a bar and restaurant serving breakfast to start the day. Guests can settle into the garden to take in the ocean outlook, and free on-site parking and luggage storage make arrivals and departures straightforward.
The setting near St Ives puts the coastline and town within easy reach, with walking routes on the doorstep and golf, fishing, horse riding and watersports all nearby, plus pubs and restaurants close by for evenings out. It's a straightforward, comfortable base for exploring Cornwall's coast rather than a destination in itself.
What guests say
Wow what can I say… we loved staying at Borthalan House. The location is perfect for St Ives with train station only a few minutes away and easy routes to beautiful places such as St Michael’s Mount and Minack Theatre. What made our stay extra special was Margaret and Martin who really looked after us. Margaret’s breakfast was delicious and Martin’s humour gives us a good kickstart to the day. Borthalan House was really cosy and the room we stayed in had lovely sea views. We will miss our daily chats with Margaret and Martin and if we return to Cornwall, we will be staying there again!

Myself and my husband had such a lovely stay here! Margaret and Martin are such lovely hosts, so helpful and welcoming. We stayed in the bay view room and we had the most gorgeous view of the sea plus very comfy bed, very quiet at night as well. Tasty breakfast and they have a bar downstairs as well if you want to sit there and have a drink or take up to the room. Location is just perfect, just under 5 min walk to the train station and 3 min train journey into St Ives if you wanted to visit there. The train runs every 30 min. I'd definitely recommend staying here!

Best guest house I've stayed in, spotlessly clean, lovely breakfast, we had the deluxe room which was lovely, great bathroom, amazing shower, and wow the view. The hosts Martin and Margaret were very friendly and helpful gave lots of good advise on places to visit etc. Carbis bay beach was about a 10 min walk down. Also a small train station (5 min walk) which takes you right into St Ives one stop and a couple of pounds. All round brilliant place to stay.
