About Emerald Stays at The Adelphi Guesthouse

The Adelphi occupies a period house at 39 Grove Road, on the western side of central Stratford-upon-Avon between the station and the town centre. It has been reworked under the Emerald Stays name into seven self-catering studios plus a one-bedroom apartment, which puts it somewhere between a traditional B&B and serviced accommodation. For longer stays, for families, or for anyone who would rather make their own breakfast than sit down to one at a fixed hour, the format works well.

Each studio has been fitted out individually with a kitchenette, en-suite bathroom and its own entry arrangements, and the standard of finish is high for the price band. Several are family-sized and several accept dogs, and the whole property can be taken for exclusive use by a group, which suits weddings and family gatherings. Free on-site parking is included, and given what the town centre car parks charge over a weekend, that is worth factoring into the comparison.

The location does most of the work. Shakespeare's Birthplace, New Place, Nash's House, the Guildhall and schoolroom, and Hall's Croft are all within about ten minutes on foot, and Anne Hathaway's Cottage at Shottery is a walk of around twenty minutes across the fields. The RSC theatres on Waterside are roughly fifteen minutes away, and the railway station is closer still. Grove Road itself is a quiet residential street, so nights are considerably calmer than they would be on Bridge Street or Waterside.

I really enjoyed my stay here. The room was immaculate, comfortable and had all the essential amenities to hand (tea, coffee, utensils etc). I stayed in room 3 which received ample sunlight during the day. The Adelphi is very close to the city centre (including Shakespeare's birthplace) and cafes and restaurants are a stone's throw away. Highly recommend the accommodation and I would definitely book again.

I recently stayed for one night and booked two studio apartments - both were excellent. The rooms were spacious, spotless and well‑equipped, making them very comfortable places to stay. The location is great, right in the town centre and convenient for exploring the area. We visited the Shakespeare Distillery, which was only a 10‑minute drive away. Communication from the owner, Kate, was excellent throughout; clear and helpful information about arrival, parking and departure, which made everything very easy. I’d happily recommend these apartments to anyone looking for a central and comfortable stay.

Great apartment in a central location. Lengthy booking procedure with more than normal info to provide. Good to have free parking. Comfortable bed. Even though we were warned it was disappointing that the shower was just a trickle if you wanted hot water. There was also an unpleasant smell in the bathroom but this may have been down to the plumbing issue which we was told would be resolved v soon. Other than that we would recommend this apartment

An ideal location. No need to use your car to get around town as easy walking to all the key sites including the station. The aparthotel itself is warm and clean with great in-room facilities like a fridge, microwave, sink, teas/coffees/hot chocolate, crockery, iron & ironing board, hairdryer and hot water bottle. In the en-suite there was hand wash, shower/hair wash. The bath towels were large. As for comfort, the bed was amazing. Host Kate very friendly and helpful.
