Alveston Manor sits immediately across Clopton Bridge on the Tiddington side of the river, close enough to walk into the centre in around ten minutes but far enough to have its own grounds and, crucially, its own free car park. The core of the building is a Tudor manor house in red brick and timber, extended over the years into a substantial hotel, and the cedar tree on the lawn carries a long-standing local claim to have hosted the first performance of A Midsummer Night's Dream.
Rooms divide between the original manor, where the beamed and four-poster rooms are, and the modern wings, which are larger and more consistent. The hotel is used a good deal for weddings and conferences, and that shapes the atmosphere: it is a busy, practical hotel rather than an intimate one, and it is priced accordingly. Families and groups tend to do well here because of the space and the parking.
Facilities include a spa with an indoor swimming pool, sauna, steam room, gym and treatment rooms, plus a restaurant and a bar that stays open late enough for post-theatre drinks. The grounds are large enough for a proper walk, and the riverside path into town via Clopton Bridge or the tramway footbridge is one of the pleasanter approaches to the centre. Holy Trinity Church, Bancroft Gardens and the RSC theatres are all within fifteen minutes on foot.

I had a really pleasant stay at this spa hotel and would rate it 4 stars. The room, service, and overall atmosphere were lovely and relaxing. The only downside was that, for a spa hotel, there wasn’t a jacuzzi, which was quite disappointing and would have made the experience feel more complete. The location is excellent — only about an 8-minute walk into Stratford-upon-Avon, so it’s perfect for exploring the town and its attractions. I also saw a performance of The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre, which was fantastic and a highlight of the trip. Overall a lovely stay — just missing that final spa touch.

Staff were professional and friendly at all times. The breakfast had a nice range of options. I had the vegan cooked breakfast option on two mornings, they arrived differently each day, once just two sausages and a piece of veggie haggis and the next day a full vegan breakfast plate. There was only soya milk as a plant milk but I had my oat milk with me. Some of the decor/carpets around the hotel look dated. All in all, we had a beautiful stay, the food was good and the staff were helpful and friendly. We would definitely return.

Was OK but that's all to be honest ..room tiny for 189pn.. and sooo hot ( yes it's an old building ) even so they have electricity so fit air con at prices charging ..tiny cheap fan at end of bed was no use whatsoever utterly useless. Parking £7.50 pd which wasn't bad u pay on arrival. Beds comfy enough no issues there ... And the swimming pool was fine man on reception to swimming pool was pleasant and informative Breakfast was OK.. beware tried to take plates away before everyone had finished eating? Location is superb though 5 min walk into heart of Stratford upon Avon

We booked a standard room on a Saturday night didn’t mind paying £220 as it looked lovely .. however we had a ground floor room , air con loud and not effective during this heatwave it was uncomfortably hot . Think it was an accessible room which l didn’t ask for , bed was very uncomfortable and pillows were so thin l had to fold mine in half to get any use out of it … basically got no sleep . Hadn’t to plug the room kettle into our extension lead and use it on the floor , no fridge in the room , no bottled water in the room . The shower was too low for my husband to comfortably use . I fed back about the air con but was told ‘ it’s subject to availability’ no apology or commitment to get it checked ! I didn’t bother to mention the other issues but we won’t book there again . Similar complaints if you read reviews so hotel management clearly not interested in their customer experience, it’s was poor value as £220 a night is not representative of the room we had . Disappointed .
