About Purbeck House Hotel

Swanage High Street runs down towards the sea and the Jurassic Coast, and it's along here, close to the beach and shops, that Purbeck House Hotel stands out with its distinctive castle-like architecture. The setting puts the coastline within easy reach while keeping the town's cafes, pubs and restaurants right on the doorstep.

The hotel has 38 rooms, including family and accessible options, all en-suite with comfortable beds and reliably strong water pressure in the bathrooms. Guests have use of a bar, garden, room service and drinks brought straight to the room, plus practical extras such as luggage storage and a laundry service. Breakfast is included, though it's fair to say it doesn't always match the standard of the rooms and service elsewhere in the hotel. Staff are consistently helpful, which counts for a good deal on a stay like this.

Beyond the hotel, the surrounding area suits walkers and cyclists, with golf and fishing also nearby, and watersports available for those keen to get onto the water itself. The hotel also has meeting rooms and hosts weddings, and free on-site parking makes it a straightforward base for touring the wider Dorset coast.

Really enjoyed my stay here. The hotel looks like a castle and has a lovely, peaceful garden area between the main hotel and the lodge. The staff were friendly and helpful, and I liked the continental breakfast they offered. We stayed in February and our room was kept at a comfortable temperature. The water pressure in the bathroom was strong, and hot water was plentiful. I have no idea where they came from, and didn't see any others during my long walks in and around Swanage, but there were two deer wandering around the hotel grounds, which we watched from our room window. Thanks to the hotel staff and management for a lovely stay.

We had a happy and memorable two-night stay in a Louisa Lodge room with a balcony and sea view. The view was particularly impressive. A charming hotel in beautiful grounds run by a lovely team made for a magical weekend. Thank you very much!

What fun if you like a bit of architecture and history. Took a minute to figure out the shower (don't use the bath taps!). Great beds and water pressure our are two must-haves and were spot on. Room 18 was a bit of a walk-up but had loads of space, gowns and views. What's not to like.

The hotel is in an excellent location, making it very convenient to get around. The hotel offers luggage storage, which is especially helpful for independent travellers. The building is mansion-style and very distinctive. The hotel was very thoughtful in assigning me a room on a higher floor, which offered a wide and pleasant street view.
