The Bing

You step straight into The Bing's kitchen and dining space, where a full set of appliances means you can cook properly or keep things simple. The living room beyond has comfortable seating and a smart TV. Upstairs, a double bedroom and bathroom with both bath and shower complete the layout. The cottage is one half of a Devon longhouse dating to the late 1700s, and retains period character throughout.

Electricity, wifi, bed linen and towels are all included, along with heating and a welcome pack. One car can park on site, with additional off-road parking available. The cottage sits on a country lane in Poundsgate, a village at the edge of Dartmoor National Park. Dogs stay free and there are fields nearby for walking them. No smoking inside.

Routes onto the moor start from the doorstep—paths lead to Hay Tor, Hound Tor and Dartmeet, and the tors themselves reward the steeper climbs. Widecombe-in-the-Moor is a short drive, and the scattered pubs around the park are easy enough to reach for an evening out after a day on foot.
