Steps End

Brixham's working harbour is on the doorstep of Steps End—a two-bedroom cottage that sits above the town's heart. The harbour itself draws people in: fishing boats unload their catch, pleasure cruises depart for Torquay, Paignton and Dartmouth, and the water occasionally brings seals, dolphins and porpoises into view. Restaurants and cafes line the waterfront, many serving fish bought that morning from the local market. The Golden Hinde replica, Brixham Heritage Museum and Battery are all within easy reach on foot.

The cottage has a double bedroom and a twin room (or super king, zip and link beds on request). Downstairs, the living and dining space opens onto two patios—one overlooks the harbour, the other is private. The kitchen has an electric oven, hob and microwave. A bath with shower, electricity, wi-fi and linen are all included. On-road parking is free; additional spaces are available in nearby public car parks. No smoking indoors.

The coastal walks from here are substantial. South Devon's cliffs stretch in both directions, and the beaches at Paignton and Torquay are minutes away by car. Most things worth doing in the area—the pubs, the seafood, the boat trips—are a walk from your door.
