About Livermead Cliff Hotel
For travellers who want a straightforward seaside stay with the sea properly in view, Livermead Cliff Hotel on Torbay Road fits the bill. It suits couples, families and older guests who value a relaxed pace, hearty food and a bus stop on the doorstep, rather than those chasing a boutique or modern edge.
The hotel has 62 rooms, including family and accessible options, all with en-suite bathrooms and the option of room service and drinks brought up directly. Some rooms show their age and could do with more attention, so it's worth setting expectations accordingly. Communal areas fare better, particularly the lounge and terrace, where the sea views are the main draw. A restaurant, bar and snack bar cover meals throughout the day, with breakfast and afternoon tea singled out for their generous portions, and packed lunches and kids' meals are available too. A garden, outdoor seating, lift access and meeting rooms round out the practical side, alongside an electric vehicle charge point.
Staff are consistently described as friendly and helpful, which goes some way to making up for the tired rooms. Torquay's attractions, golf, fishing, horse riding, cycling and walking routes are all within reach nearby, with pubs and restaurants close by too, and the bus stop right outside the hotel makes getting into town straightforward.

What guests say
Just spent 4 nights at this charming hotel with all my friends and family, 8 rooms we booked in total and we can’t speak highly enough about our stay, everyone thoroughly enjoyed it. The rooms were clean, comfortable and we had everything we needed, the fans were very much needed in the high temperatures we’ve had. The breakfast is delicious and so much to choose from, the staff keep everything restocked. The terrace and views are beautiful, the kids loved playing out on the grass area and we were able to relax knowing they were safe. We want to say a huge thank you to all the staff who were all so friendly, welcoming and nothing was too much trouble, I didn’t get all there names unfortunately but they were all amazing, the girls on reception Claire, Fiona, Sophie and Kerry, hoping I’ve got the names correct! Also the two gentleman were very helpful and chatty and helped with luggage and anything else we needed. The bar staff were super and the staff at breakfast were all amazing, Ann Marie, Olga, Rhys and so sorry I never got the other two ladies names, you all deserve medals. Being able to use the outside pool at the sister hotel over the road was a god send as this was the kids highlight of their holiday and we spent two afternoons there. Catching the bus to the main area in Torquay was really easy with the stops just outside the hotel and they arrived every 10-15 minutes and we were only on it 5 minutes. In the evening we liked to walk back to the hotel which took us about half an hour but this was lovely and scenic. I would recommend anyone going to this hotel and we look forward to returning in the future.

Stunning views, excellent food, really nice staff and iconic terrace. However, the rooms are extremely old, small. This was the first hotel I have ever been to without a fridge in the room. The hotel is pet friendly (which is completely fine) but in our room we're stains of dog spraying on the wedges of the bed and the smell in there was pretty heavy. It s ok if you are looking just for a bed during the night and don't expect too much.

Our superior sea view room with terrace (54) certainly lived up to its name insofar as the sea view was indeed superior but sadly the room itself was not. We only had a standard double bed rather than a king size bed as one would expect in a superior room, the bedroom furniture was very dated whilst the bathroom suite was avocado which probably confirms the age of both of them. Contrary to the assertion on the web-site the TV was small and overall the room did not meet our not unreasonable expectations save that it was clean. Additionally the lift was both small and old-fashioned and my wife would not have gone in it on her own. On the positive side the staff were very friendly and helpful and we could not fault the breakfasts. It was also convenient having the adjacent bus stops. We may return to enjoy the location but would hope for an improved superior room.

I've stayed here on several occasions and always thoroughly enjoyed the experience. It's comfortable, has a bar serving excellent bar food and has stunning views. The three stars are because they have recently slapped a £12 per night parking fee for those of us using online booking platforms such as Booking.com. Therefore my stay suddenly cost an extra £36 on top of the hotel booking. This is a relatively new thing. The fee wouldn't be so bad if you were given a designated parking space for your stay but if you're there when the hotel is full, you're not even guaranteed a space in the car park. As a state pensioner with limited savings, Booking.com's Genus reward system meant that I could afford a few days in a decent hotel. These new charges mean that I probably won't be able to afford to go back to one of my favourite hotels.
