Large 142-room hotel on Belgrave Road, Torquay, with a mix of standard and upgraded rooms, a pool, gym and on-site entertainment.

About Riviera Hotel

Step into a room at the Riviera Hotel and you'll find one of 142 options across the property, with family rooms available and drinks provided in-room. Standard rooms are functional, though some can show their age and maintenance can be patchy, so those wanting sharper décor and newer amenities are better off booking one of the upgraded rooms, which come with more comfortable, modern fittings.

Downstairs there's a restaurant serving breakfast and meals with a good range of choice, backed up by a bar, outdoor seating and regular entertainment laid on for guests, though the dining room can get busy and service occasionally struggles to keep pace at peak times. Staff are consistently helpful and friendly throughout. The hotel also has an indoor swimming pool, gym, games room, laundry service and free WiFi, plus a lift for easy access to all floors, and parking is available on site.

Set on Belgrave Road in Torquay, the hotel is well placed for exploring Devon's coastline and beaches, with golf, fishing, watersports, cycling and walking all nearby, along with further pubs and restaurants in the surrounding area.

Had a lovely weekend here. Food basic but perfectly cooked and plentiful. Kitchen staff fab. Served us even though late for dinner one evening. Salads not on display but are available, which is great, as it is kept crisp and fresh in the kitchen. Our room was yet to be refurbished. There was a small stain and carpet was showing a bit of wear. The bedroom and bathroom were both clean. The entertainment at the hotel was ok. One tip; don't buy half pints at the bar, my friend paid £5.25 for a pint, but they charged £6 for two halves. It's cheaper to book direct than go through Trivago or Booking.com. If you book direct there is no extra charge for parking. Didn't use the swimming pool, but it looked lovely, although a bit on the small side. Would definitely go back.

Had a 3 night stay here in May. The weather really was fabulous. I was offered the £5 per night room upgrade which i took which was a great choice. Food is all buffet style which suits me the best. Great Sports Bar with outside area and outdoor screens. The Showbar is lovely with quizzes, bingo and acts. Hard working and pleasant staff including the lovely Terry the duty manager. Large hotel with alot of steps and corridors.

Our room overlooked the road which was ok, unfortunately it was absolutely boiling there was a fan in the room which sounded like it was about to blow up, went to reception and had it changed immediately which was great and had no problems with that. We went away for out anniversary and had a really good weekend, the breakfast could be improved I think, the sausages looked like they needed cooking longer and the bacon looked the same. Maybe a bit more choice for breakfast wouldn't go a miss such as cold meats etc. The ladies on reception were very nice, professional, happy and very helpful. On Saturday night I asked a member of the bar staff for a bucket with ice as it was our anniversary and had a bottle of champagne that I had given my husband for our anniversary, unfortunately the man who I asked was pretty rude and said no, I said it was to take up to the room and he said that the best he could do was for me to buy a bottle of coke and he could give me a glass of ice, I said is that it and he said yes. So that put a bit of a dampener on our experience in the bar, not happy at all.

I have been to Torquay 3 times, twice I've stayed here and the 3rd time was a different hotel (coach company choices) and The Riviera is miles above the other one. Terry the manager is so friendly and helpful as are the receptionists. The entertainment is miles above every other I've seen, the bingo is not only fantastic but the staff members who do it and the quiz are so entertaining, Terry's jokes and grumbles make it even better. The food is always beautiful, yes I've had rooms that were on top floors that I've had to climb, but that was my own choice when I upgraded. I would definitely prefer to stay in this hotel than the other one. I even came to this one on the Saturday night as it was better value, entertainment and atmosphere.
