About The Shirley

Braddons Hill Road East climbs quietly above Torquay, and it's here, a short walk from the harbour and the seafront of the English Riviera, that The Shirley makes its home. Devon's coastline and countryside spread out beyond the town, giving easy reach to golf, fishing, cycling routes and coastal walking paths, while the pubs, restaurants and entertainment of Torquay itself are close by.

The Shirley has just three rooms, each en-suite and kept in a clean, comfortable state with period features that give the building character. It's an adults-only property, which lends the place a calmer, more restful feel, and free on-site parking makes arriving by car straightforward. Breakfast is cooked fresh each morning with a good range of choices, including local produce, and can be taken before heading out for the day.

Guests have use of a garden and outdoor seating area, a bar for evening drinks, and free WiFi throughout, while the team on 24-hour reception are known for their helpful local recommendations. The Shirley also operates as a wedding venue with meeting rooms available. It's a small, homely base with a genuinely welcoming feel, suited to those who want Torquay's coast and countryside within easy reach of a quiet front door.

Just back from an amazing stay at The Shirley. Lovely location a few minutes from the marina with plenty of restaurants and pubs. The Greek restaurant in the pictures was amazing. The rooms were beautiful with high ceilings and period features. As you may have seen from other reviews, the breakfast is brilliant and our hosts couldn’t do enough to accommodate our needs. Thanks for a wonderful stay Beth and Nick

Alec & Sophie we're very warm and welcoming, nothing was too much trouble, even down to changing our cups (proper mugs!) In our room. The room was sunny and well kept. Hotel overall is very homely, situated within 10 mins of the town centre, it was perfect for us. Two lovely cats wandering around made our visit lovely too! Have to mention the breakfast! Fresh, local, produce cooked perfectly! No greasy spoon here! Consistently great! And one last thing, poke your head in the room opposite the reception and you'll find the biggest TV you'll EVER see! 😆 can't wait to go back. Our first visit to Torquay and The Shirley Hotel but won't be the last! Thank you. Frank & Jan Room No.8

Just spent two nights here as a base to visit the Princess Theatre about 15ins walk away. Our hosts were lovely and made us very welcome. The room and bathroom were clean and comfortable with great facilities. Breakfast was superb. We will definitely return if/when we stay in Torquay again.
