About The Westgate

Period features throughout mark out The Westgate as a proper Victorian townhouse conversion, tucked away on Falkland Road in Torquay with only 10 rooms, so it never feels anonymous. Original character details sit alongside modern comforts, with en-suite bathrooms, air conditioning, free WiFi and drinks in the room as standard, and family rooms available for those travelling with children.

Downstairs there's a restaurant and bar for evening meals and drinks, a snack bar for something lighter, and kids' meals catered for. Breakfast is included to set guests up for the day, and outside there's a garden, patio and picnic area to make use of when the weather allows. Practical extras include luggage storage, concierge services and free on-site parking, which is a genuine plus in a town where parking can be tricky.

The location works well for exploring the English Riviera and the wider Devon coast, with golf, fishing, horse riding, cycling and walking all nearby, plus watersports for the more active, and a good spread of pubs and restaurants within easy reach. It's a straightforward, well-placed base for a Torquay stay rather than a destination in itself.

We had a wonderful stay at The Westgate. The room was clean, comfortable and very welcoming. The bed was especially comfortable, and we had a great night’s sleep. The shower room was spacious, with plenty of room to move around, which made it very convenient. We happened to visit during a heatwave, and although having air conditioning would have been a bonus, a fan was provided and was very helpful. The service was excellent. We couldn’t figure out how to open the window, and the host was very patient and happy to show us. We also paid extra for breakfast, and it was definitely worth it. The semi self-service breakfast offered cereals, yoghurt, toast and juice, together with a freshly prepared full English breakfast and tea/coffee. It was delicious and very satisfying. Overall, we had a lovely experience and would definitely stay here again if we return to Torquay. Highly recommended to friends!

We've had a delightful stay at the Westgate over the long Jubilee weekend. Karen and Lee, the proprietors, were great hosts. They were fantastically helpful and went out of their way to make us feel welcome. There was a great choice of breakfasts and we had delicious steaks on the one evening when we ate in. Our bed and indeed the bedding on it was great quality, the room was spotless and modern. We will be returning :)

Stayed here for two nights in May. The owners were very helpful as I needed to adjust our booking before our arrival. We were given a newly refurbished ground floor room. Very spacious with a modern en suite. Breakfast excellent and hosts very friendly and helpful. A good base for our stay. Thank you!

We had a wonderful stay here. So friendly and accommodating. From the start we were made aware of the measurements they were taking with covid 19. The bed was very comfy. We had a top room at the back and had great WiFi reception. The shower was powerful. The room was clean and tidy. Breakfast was filling and we were waited on. We thoroughly enjoyed our 2 night stay.
