About Trelawney Hotel - Guest House

A full English or continental breakfast starts the day at Trelawney Hotel - Guest House, a twelve-room B&B on Belgrave Road in Torquay. The property is straightforward and well-kept, offering a manageable size that suits guests who prefer a personal touch over a large hotel setup, and the hosts are known for a friendly, welcoming manner.

Rooms are comfortable and clean, and guests have access to a bar and restaurant on site, along with free WiFi, a garden, and 24 hour reception. Free on-site parking is available too, which is a useful bonus in a seaside town where spaces can be hard to come by. The property also serves as a wedding venue, and luggage storage is on hand for those arriving early or leaving late.

The location is central, within easy reach of the beach, the town centre, and the train station, making it a practical base for exploring the English Riviera. It's a straightforward, decent-value option for anyone wanting to be close to Torquay's seafront and amenities without frills.

Just had a long weekend at the Trelawney hotel. Liz gave us such a warm welcome. The room was spotless and the breakfast very good. Would recommend to stay here and the location was very central to the train station, beach and town.

Stayed here with my parents and my experience was just as bad as theirs. Never again. Very noisy, couldn't sleep, unpleasant smell of smoke, parking is a joke. And you can stop sending my Mam nasty texts. UPDATE What are u on about lol. As you're well aware i stayed here with my family. Sorry not a fake account. If this was a fake account/review, google would have removed it. I'm allowed to leave you feedback for a room I chipped in for.

9/4/26: I've condensed my original review to respond to owners reply (see Trip Advisor for full review); Looking at the responses to other negative feedback, I was expecting a spiteful & underhanded reply. To accuse me of profiteering (they need to check the definition of profiteering) is utterly disgraceful & shows the profound lack of empathy from these B&B owners. I would not have the audacity to put my profits first as they have done. It made us question other aspects of how the business was run & if all legal regulations were being met. It's not about the money but the principle & they did not look after us as guests. My concern is preventing other guests from getting hurt, it's an event that will stay with me. Whether the guest was drunk is irrelevant, he could have had a medical episode & fallen. Let’s not shame a man that was just trying to have a nice time with his wife. 90% of my feedback is NOT positive. The points I made have also been mentioned by other guests that were accused of being malicious; incorrect main image on Booking.com - this could be seen as a deliberate attempt to mislead guests into thinking they were staying near the Torquay harbour. The B&B is located on the noisy, crime hotspot, Belgrave Road – the one where they burned down the Sherwood Hotel last Sunday (see BBC Devon news). Why is Trelawney the only business that advertises a picture of the harbour as the main image & not the actual B&B? The other businesses are proud to show their establishments and surroundings as their main image. Advertised as a hotel with parking – there are 2 spaces but there are 14 rooms. You will struggle to park if you are travelling by car & made worse if you have reduced mobility. It’s no good informing people of this AFTER they have booked. Strong cigarette smell – especially in the reception area. It's evident there are heavy smokers living in the B&B – think nicotine stained fingers. No blackout curtains – contradicts what they state on Trip Advisor & demonstrates a lack of concern for your quality of sleep. Cash payments – Liz seemed visibly put out when I said I’d be paying by card. It makes you wonder why they would be so desperate for cash. Horrible attitudes coupled with victim mentalities. Contempt for guests; accusing them of being malicious, profiteering or being ‘crazy’. If you have an awful experience, don't let them intimidate you with their nasty texts. Travellers need to know the truth in order to make a proper assessment when deciding where to stay. That's why we have review systems. ORIGINAL; Unfortunately, there was a serious incident while we were staying here. Another guest fell 20-30ft from somewhere along the 2nd and 3rd floor. The commotion (sound of the fall/hysterical screaming) woke nearly every guest up. I called the ambulance as I was the first out of bed. This was going on right outside the door of the owners living quarters but they didn't appear so I was left to deal with the situation along with another guest. I thought they must have been off site so I messaged Liz (01:14am) as soon as I got off the phone from the call handler but didn't receive a reply. My focus was to make sure the guest who'd fallen didn't try to move & to comfort his wife whilst we waited for the ambulance to arrive. They were eventually taken to hospital around 2:20am. I barely slept but was aware I needed to be downstairs around 7am to update Liz as she would have been wondering what had happened - broken railing, huge hole in wall, blood on the carpet. It turns out Liz & Paul were in their quarters but didn't hear a thing which was baffling considering they'd told my parents the ceiling in their basement had cracked due to the impact of the fall. The weekend was marred after all this, from the lack of sleep & me worrying about my family etc on the stairs so we ended up leaving early to go home, especially as this was not the first time someone had fallen according to Liz. I hope the guest who fell makes a full recovery and I also send best wishes to his wife who was understandably distraught.
