Shippen is one of three converted barns at Hartland Holiday Barns, a rural property between the North Devon coast and Bideford. The setting suits couples seeking a quiet break, walkers exploring the area on foot, or anyone wanting to bring a dog—two small to medium-sized pets stay free. The barns sit within 2½ acres of natural grounds with meadows, sitting areas and a shared BBQ space, surrounded by wildlife habitats including ponds and bird boxes that the owners actively maintain.
The single bedroom contains a double bed (4ft 6in) and opens directly to an ensuite shower room. Ground-floor living includes a smart TV and Bluetooth speaker, with a small courtyard seating area outside. The kitchen is equipped for self-catering, and essentials like electricity, bed linen, towels and Wi-Fi are included. A shared utility room with washing machine is available, plus bike storage and parking for one car. The property does not accommodate children or babies, and smoking is not permitted.
Hartland village and Clovelly are a short drive away; broader sandy beaches around Bude in Cornwall are slightly further. The location works well for those wanting both rural peace and access to coastal walking, though it suits adults travelling without young children.

If you are looking for peace and quiet or a secluded retreat, this will tick your boxes. With the owners' house, there are 3 small accommodations built into a converted stable block. There is under floor heating, great views and quiet surroundings. Be aware if you own a low car, the drive to the Barns is very rural - on a single track road and will scrape if you are in a low car or are not careful in a regular height vehicle. Other than that the place is gorgeous, totally quiet at night, no road noise at all and great night skies with very little light pollution. We stayed for 6 nights and there is plenty to do around, local town is 2 miles away and has a great pub restaurant with an equally great takeaway attached. The accommodation really is finished to a very high standard, and the owners are lovely, you can tell a lot of care has been put into the place. So we'd recommend without a doubt, just be prepared for how rural it is, and enjoy!
