Great Torrington sits on the edge of Dartmoor with the Tarka Trail—a 180-mile cycling and walking route—running through the area. The South West Coast Path is within reach for seaside trips, and the town itself has shops, pubs and a castle. Town Mills - Tarka occupies a Grade II listed building on the banks of the River Torridge, originally built as a grain and saw mill in 1823. The property is yours alone, with six bedrooms split across three floors that can accommodate 12 people.
Ground floor has the main living and dining space with a wood-effect stove, and a kitchen equipped for cooking from scratch. Upstairs are two double bedrooms with ensuite showers, two further double rooms (each with two single beds), and a shared family bathroom on the first floor; the second floor repeats this layout with another double ensuite, two double rooms with singles, and a bathroom. Towels, bed linen, Wi-Fi and electricity are provided. A tumble dryer is on-site for laundry. The shared facilities include an indoor heated swimming pool, games room with pool table, and a three-acre grounds with garden seating and a children's play area. One dog stays free of charge. There is an ornamental pond and a fenced river on the grounds. Low ceilings require caution on the top floor.

We had a fantastic family stay at Town Mills. The cottage was very spacious and comfortable, and it genuinely had everything we needed for a longer stay. The house stayed cosy and warm, and it was wonderfully quiet and peaceful at night. We really enjoyed having access to the pool and games room, which were great additions to our stay. The location is also ideal; the town is close by, making it very easy to explore the area and enjoy days out. On top of that, communication was excellent, and any questions we had were answered quickly. We truly enjoyed our time here and would happily recommend it. Thank you!

Location was gorgeous, surrounded by forests, water, and birds.. We rented Tarka, as we were a large family coming together for a birthday, age ranging from 2 to 80 years old. The place was large and had enough rooms for everyone, nice 2 ensuite doubles, with tvs, the rest were twin rooms. All had luxury bedding, we all agreed we slept so well there. The host Jonathan was lovely, and brought us milk, orange juice and cookies, which was so kind. There was a lovely heated pool, very large, and we had great fun in there, you can book slots so that you have some privacy. There's also a games room, which we didn't use... too busy having a party, and eating and drinking, having fun together. Had a lovely bank holiday weekend, just what we were looking for! I would recommend this place for larger families! There were 9 of us..

We hired the cottage for its location and excellent indoor swimming pool. We were not disappointed. The cottage was very reasonably priced and this was a reflection of the new owners gradually updating the accommodation. Everything was sparklingly clean, with high quality bedlinen, towels and comfy beds. The WiFi was the best we've found in the area and smart TV was great. Little touches like fresh milk, orange juice and cookies, an excellent induction hob and views of the river made it a lovely week.
