About Tyncornel Bunkhouse Youth Hostel

Tucked just outside Tregaron in the heart of Ceredigion, Tyncornel Bunkhouse Youth Hostel offers straightforward, no-frills accommodation for walkers and cyclists touring this quiet corner of mid-Wales. The setting is peaceful and rural, making it a practical base for exploring the Cambrian Mountains or the nearby Red Kite feeding stations that draw birdwatchers from across the UK.

Facilities are basic but functional—there's a public telephone on-site, though note that dogs aren't permitted. It's the sort of place that suits groups, solo hikers, or anyone after an unpretentious overnight stop rather than a polished glamping experience. If you're looking for a simple, well-located bunkhouse in beautiful walking country, Tyncornel does the job.

Bill Tine was the warden when I stayed there recently for 2 nights during my backpacking trip on the Cambrian Way. He was very hospital and kind. He started volunteering in 1989! He and his friends started a charity to buy and manage 2 hostels to make it available to those who want to enjoy the beauty of the wilderness. There was a little shop stocked with various canned foods which I bought quite a few to avoid using my own faltering supplies. There was no WiFi or mobile signal at the location and it was surrounded by natural beauty.

Brilliant place to stay on the Cambrian way. Feel like at home, also thanks to wardens. Really cosy and clean, no mobile network and internet, which is great!

A whole group of us stayed here twice for secluded weekends. It is utterly remote and nettled among sheep-filled hills along the Cambrian Way. The hostel itself is well facilitated with everything you can think of to cook for a large crowd. There are two rooms upstairs catering six bunks per room. There are two bathrooms downstairs for men and women and a single shower. It is the perfect getaway for walking or uninterrupted chilling with friends with an assortment of games, maps and historical literature. It is a proud and unfancy establishment which we have appreciated immensley. The walks in the surrounding area are interesting and invigorating but the road in is slightly treacherous. There is only one route in from the north (as the other end is closed) so be aware of Sat nav directions. A bit tricky to get to but definitely worth the effort!

No frills and no fuss as you'd expect but it is clean and tidy. Amazing location but don't expect to get down the drive in a low slung sports car! You'll be fine in a normal car at a steady pace. Great as a hiking or biking Basecamp.
