Caledonian Hotel

Room was nice and clean, front desk staff quite rude to us on arrival didnt make us feel welcome. Because we are English maybe!!?? Didn't try food as decided not to give them anymore of our money. So had a great pizza at the pizza restaurant opposite so highly recommend that and the cafe for breakfast opposite hotel was brilliant to highly recommend them both. Shame the staff were not friendly as this would have given the hotel good marks all round.

Our group was two adults, our son and our Goldendoodle. The triple room had a double bed a single and was clean, modern and had a decent bathroom. The whole place is super dog friendly. The staff throughout the hotel are really lovely a credit to the place. The bar has is quite small but is sufficient and the restaurant is standard Scottish hotel quality. Not great, certainly not bad, but does the job. The hotel is located a few minutes walk from everything you need. Our room had a lovely view out to the sea and the harbour. Breakfast was a standard buffet, again not brilliant, but perfectly fine. Coffee is terrible from a machine, no excuse for bad coffee these days. Filter coffee served at the table would be a sensible upgrade.

Stayed here whilst completing the NC500 and, unfortunately, this was the most disappointing hotel of the trip. The one real positive was the lady on reception, who was friendly, professional and genuinely helpful throughout our stay. The on-site car park was also convenient. However, the hotel itself felt more like a hostel than a hotel. The photographs online are quite misleading and do not reflect the reality of the property. The corridors are extremely long and have a hospital-like feel, with no lift available. There was a strong smell in parts of the corridors, including what appeared to be cannabis. Noise was a major issue throughout our stay. A dog in a neighbouring room on the same corridor barked repeatedly, there was loud music coming from the room next door, and noise from the nearby club could also be heard. During the day and late into the evening it was difficult to find any peace and quiet. The room and overall condition of the hotel felt dated and tired, and the property did not resemble the impression given by the photographs on the website. Ullapool is a beautiful place and we enjoyed visiting the town, but sadly the accommodation did not meet expectations. Apart from the helpful receptionist and the convenient parking, there was very little that stood out positively.

The hotel is in a strategic location for catching the ferry to Lewis and Harris. The room was small but clean, and it was equipped with plenty of power outlets for charging devices. The bathroom featured a spacious shower complete with complimentary shampoo and body wash. The one thing I didn't particularly like was the carpet throughout the room and the hallways, mostly for hygiene reasons. As for breakfast, it was a typical Scottish spread; although it was a bit bland, it wasn't bad at all. Overall, I'd say it's a good hotel for a one-night stay if you need to catch the ferry the next morning.
