Hale Barn

Photo: Alan Stokes

This timber-framed barn conversion dates back 250 years and sits within its own grounds on a working farm in the Weald, surrounded by the South Downs. The setting is rural and quiet, with 56 acres of shared farmland and views across Sussex countryside. The property is yours alone for the duration of your stay.

Four bedrooms sleep eight: one super king with ensuite on the ground floor, two further doubles upstairs, and singles elsewhere. Two bathrooms serve the property. The ground floor is open-plan, with a woodburner, a dining table seating eight, and a kitchen equipped for proper cooking. Exposed beams and vaulted ceilings run through the interior. Outside, a covered veranda opens to a private hot tub for eight and garden furniture; a gas BBQ is there if you want it. There's parking for six cars. Essentials like heating, electricity, bed linen and wifi are covered; initial wood for the burner is included too.

The farm keeps donkeys, rare-breed pigs, sheep and poultry—children often enjoy seeing them. Walking and cycling access to the High Weald and South Downs Country Park is immediate. Couples and families only; note that some doorways upstairs are low. No smoking inside.

Had a fabulous stay at Hale Barn in Chiddingly first week of September . Beautiful setting and fantastic accommodation. A credit to the owners Lovely to see Farm animals as well as Pigmy goats and Alpacas. Would really recommend a visit and stay here. They also have a smaller barn called Hale Dairy which is also available to stay and a camp site near by.
