Magpie's Rest is a studio apartment on the first floor of a converted space, sleeping two in a double bed. The open-plan layout combines living, dining and kitchen areas with a shower room; essentials like heating, electricity, bed linen and towels are provided, along with wifi. A decked patio overlooks the rear, and there is parking for one car on site. No smoking throughout.
The location suits couples wanting to explore Dartmoor or follow the Drake's Trail, a 21-mile walking and cycling route that begins on the doorstep and runs through woodland and moorland towards Plymouth. Access to the national park itself is direct from the back gate. A pub is within a mile's walk. The property stands just off the A386 between Tavistock and Yelverton, roughly two miles from shops and restaurants. One well-behaved pet stays free of charge.
The studio sits above the owner's garage; there are 12 open-tread steps up to the decked patio. The water supply is natural rather than mains. A bike store is available by arrangement. Check-in is after 15:00 and checkout before 10:00.

I enjoyed my 5-night stay here, despite arriving with a bit of a cold and the weather being not-much-better for the week. The accommodation is very well presented, maintained and much nicer than home. Enough for one person or a couple. Just outside of Yelverton so not too noisy or busy but still good access for Tavistock, Yelverton and further afield. On foot, you can exit the property via the rear gate (private) and explore a network of local footpaths (woodland and riverside), leading to Drake's Trail and cycle route 27. Being close to an A-road, you can hear the passing traffic (particularly during rush hour) from the front of the property. However, it is only 'passing' traffic and not the stop-start, engines revving, tyres squealing, that you'd expect to find near a town or city centre. I'd happily stay here again. My 5-night stay passed far too swiftly! PS. I completed the 500-piece puzzle over three evenings. Can you do better?

Two of us spent 3 days mid-July 2025 at this lovely little apartment. We booked at very short notice the day before arrival. The owners (Nick & Claire) were welcoming and helpful. The bed was comfy, the accommodation was clean and so well designed that it did not feel cramped at all. The kitchen was well equipped and I was able to comfortably cook full meals from scratch. The shower and hot water provisions were excellent. Absolutely perfectly sited for access to walkers or cyclists with the scenic and viaduct scattered cycle route 27 (Plymouth-Ilfracombe) a short and enchanting wooded path from directly out of the back door. Regular buses in both directions (Tavistock/Plymouth) from stops virtually outside the main house. Nearby Tavistock has a range of eateries, and I can recommend the Annex for a special meal out. Definitely would stay again, and probably for longer.

Ideal to use as a base for one or two people to explore Dartmoor. Modern, nicely furnished and thoughtfully laid out, it makes the best use of the available space and has everything you need (lots of plug sockets!) including dedicated parking and access from the rear of the property directly onto a network of trails. 99.9% perfect - my only suggestion for improvement would be to increase the storage space in the bathroom (a larger cabinet or a couple of shelves would be most welcome). I'll definitely be visiting again.

We stayed here Friday to Monday and loved every minute.Beautiful place in a beautiful location. Extremely well maintained property with great access to local walking routes which are idyllic. Nick and Claire were fantastic hosts giving great advice on places to visit and were always friendly and approachable. The property has everything you could need to have a comfortable and relaxing time away 😊
