About Morwellham Quay
Tucked into the Tamar Valley with lovely river views, Morwellham Quay occupies a wonderfully scenic corner of Devon where history and the outdoors come together nicely. The site itself sits within a former working port that's now a heritage attraction—guests can explore the old village or ride the mine train through a Victorian copper mine (for an extra fee), and the on-site pub serves good food to fuel your adventures. Walkers and cyclists will find riverside rambles and country paths right on the doorstep, while anglers can fish the Tamar or hire kayaks nearby. There's a free soft-play area for under-12s, though some visitors note that certain activities can occasionally be closed.
With Plymouth just 35 minutes away and the Cornish coast within easy reach, this small, peaceful site makes a cracking base for exploring Devon and beyond. Pitches are non-electric grass, gravel, or hardstanding—perfect for those after a remote, wildlife-rich escape without sacrificing creature comforts.

What visitors say
Honestly a wonderful experience. The amazing, friendly, knowledgable staff. The site is so beautifully maintained and cared for and resides in such a gorgeous location. The activities such as chocolate making and victorian school were so well done and the train ride through a mine was something I didn’t think I’d ever do. They squeezed us in early for a quick tour of the site which was really going the extra mile as they had a school trip in shortly after opening. I couldn’t recommend this place more if you have an interest in history, mines, engineering or anything Victorian. The site is also accessible for people whom may find walking difficult and they have a buggy to drive you up to the mine train as the walk up is quite steep. To sum it up, this is a must see if you’re in Devon!

Just to be clear as website is not - if its mine history you seek there is very little here. The famous mine is open only sporadically, staff could not say when today, there is no access to surrounding area without the "village" entry fee - and the " village" is a collection of closed buildings not related to mining - disappointed - kiddies play area and pub open - if that's what you want

Visited for the first time today after over 15 years. Wanted to relive the nostalgia of childhood visits and locate the spot which a photo was taken when I dressed up as a child. Unfortunately the nostalgia effect wore off quickly, and instead we felt sad and let down, like the historic buildings looked and felt. The mine train was a great reminder of the nostalgic visits, but the prerecorded story felt lack luster to what used to be an in the moment history trip with enthusiasm and q&a’s. While it’s understandable money is tight for everyone, we couldn’t help but think the whole visit, that the soft play has become the centre of attention, so everything else has been shoved aside and forgotten about. Ruth’s Cottage is in dismay, the boat is a shambles, the planters are over grown and un maintained, the greenhouse is not worth popping your head into. The farm yard is neglected and the overall magic of the place is weak. We looked forward to our visit and planned to bring friends and their kids down in the summer, but after our visit today we won’t be returning for anything but the pub.
