The Boatman's Retreat is a Grade II listed former pub near Totnes, converted into a four-bedroom family home with space for up to seven guests. It works well for families with younger children—a travel cot and highchair are on hand—and equally suits groups of friends or extended families wanting their own self-contained base in the countryside. The property is yours alone for the duration of your stay, with off-road parking and a private garden.

Inside, the layout centres on comfortable living areas with a wood burner, a separate dining room for meals together, and a kitchen equipped for cooking from scratch. Two bathrooms and an additional toilet mean the mornings run smoothly. Bedrooms comprise two kingsize rooms, one with bunk beds for children, and a single. Electricity, bed linen and towels are included in the price.

The rural location puts you near Broadhempston Primary School and within reach of Dartmoor's walking and cycling routes, though the village itself has a shop and café for supplies and breakfast if you'd rather not cook. The cottage is non-smoking throughout.

Best Sunday lunch in the area — no question. Incredible quality, amazing value, and a brilliant atmosphere. Paula and Chris have created something special here. The live singer gave it the perfect Sunday vibe. Thank you — fantastic experience.

Only stopped for a beer so can't rate the food! But their plentiful, all inclusive Sunday lunch sounds great! Lovely owners, very friendly and nice warm stove to sit next to. Will definitely be back!
