Duckling Cottage

Open the door of Duckling Cottage and you step into a properly fitted home, not a basic let. The ground floor holds a living room with an open fire, a kitchen/dining space where you can actually cook, and a utility room with washing machine and dishwasher. Upstairs, two bedrooms—one with a king-size bed, one with two singles—each have their own shower room and TV. Wi-Fi, bed linen, towels and heating are all included. One well-behaved pet is welcome.

The cottage sits on a town centre street in Bowness, among shops, cafés and restaurants. A pub is within a mile. The small courtyard out back has garden furniture and a sitting area. Parking is on the road; bikes can be stored. The building itself keeps its traditional character—exposed beams, wooden floors, the working fireplace—but the fittings throughout are modern and comfortable.

The location means everything is close by. Windermere Lake's steamers are a short walk away, drawing visitors year-round. Ambleside and Lakeside are accessible if you want to venture further. This is a two-couple holiday base where you get proper facilities, not something pretending to be more than it is.
