Haweswater Cottage is a detached farm property with everything supplied for a self-catering stay. The kitchen has an electric oven, hob and microwave; a wood burner heats the ground floor; Wi-Fi, bed linen, electricity and logs are all included. There are three double bedrooms plus two singles, arranged across two floors, with a bathroom and separate shower room, and a garden with seating and a barbecue. Parking for three cars sits on site, and one dog can stay free, though it must be kept on a lead as the cottage stands on a working farm.

The location is at the foot of open fells near Penrith, in a less busy corner of Cumbria than the central Lake District. Walks, cycle routes and bridleways start from the doorstep. Wildlife here includes red squirrels, deer and birds of prey; Shap Abbey, a 15th-century ruin, lies a short distance away. The roads are quieter than in the busier valleys, which suits cyclists looking for both tarmac and off-road tracks. Smoking is not permitted.

Wonderful relaxing week. Great base camp starting point for some lovely walks and easy short hop to just about anywhere in the lakes.

Gorgeous historic cottage nestled in the hills. A mile off marked roads on a working farm raising fell ponies and horses

This is a self-catering cottage, not a hotel ( in case people are wondering) Out in the middle of nowhere. Quiet, dark & totally wonderful. Birdsong & the wind in the trees is all you're going to hear. The owner's were warm & very welcoming. It's on a working farm with many furry friends, so expect to get mucky. Bring plenty of provisions so you don't have to bother going anywhere for your stay, you won't want to.

We've just come back from a week's stay here. The cottage is in such a beautiful location, you can stand in the Garden, and see for miles on a good day, watching the Sheep and horses that are out in the field. The cottage has everything in it you could need, including a log fire. There was 2 families of 4 staying here, and we never felt like we were on top of each other, although at times, 1 toilet was a bit tricky. We would definitely come back and stay again.
