Nightjar

Nightjar is a detached cottage that has kept much of its original character while mixing in modern comforts. The building sits in rural Westmorland and Furness, positioned between the Lake District's well-trodden routes and its quieter corners. Ullswater lies less than ten minutes' drive away; Keswick takes fifteen. A pub is within a mile.

Inside are two bedrooms and two bathrooms. The kitchen is equipped for proper cooking, with electric oven and hob, dishwasher, microwave and Nespresso machine. A wood-burning stove warms the main living space. Bed linen, towels and wifi are provided; electricity is included. The cottage is yours alone for the duration of your stay, with parking for up to two cars. One well-behaved dog can stay free of charge.

The setting suits people who want to explore the Lakes without staying in the thick of it—Grasmere, Ambleside and Bowness on Windermere are all within reasonable reach—but also those content to stay put and use the peace around the cottage as the point. Smoking is not permitted inside.
