Grizedale sits in the heart of the Lake District, surrounded by forest and fells with Lake Coniston at its edge. Rowlandson Ground Cottage occupies this setting as a semi-detached property dating to the 1640s, when it served as a retreat for monks. The house retains period character—exposed beams, stone floors, an open fireplace—but functions as a straightforward holiday let rather than a museum piece.
Inside there are two bedrooms: one with a double bed, the other with two singles, plus a bathroom with bath and shower. The ground floor holds a living and dining room (where the fire is) and a kitchen equipped for self-catering, including a dishwasher. A lawned garden with patio sits to the front. Parking for two cars is on site. Wi-Fi, electricity and bed linen are included. The property does not permit smoking. Note that the cottage has narrow, steep stairs.
A short woodland walk leads down to Lake Coniston's shore. Coniston village is two miles away with shops, pubs and restaurants. Grizedale Forest, behind the cottage, contains sixty sculptures and offers walking trails. Tarn Howes lies a mile distant. The setting suits walkers and families wanting to explore the Lakes without being in a town centre.
