The Old Boathouse Lodge is split across two connected buildings on the South Walney Nature Reserve near Penrith. The main house contains three bedrooms and a family bathroom on the ground floor, with the living spaces upstairs positioned to take in views across the reserve and towards the sea. A separate one-bedroom annexe, called The Hide, has its own kitchen and sitting area, making the whole setup useful for extended families or groups who want some independence without losing connection to one another.
Each bedroom in the main house has a different character. The master has a king bed and en-suite with double shower; the second offers another king; the third has zip-link twin beds that can become a double if preferred. Downstairs there is a utility room with washing machine and tumble dryer. Electricity, bed linen and towels are included. The property is non-smoking.
The nature reserve itself is home to seals and numerous bird species, with binoculars useful from the windows. A pub is within walking distance, and the coast is on your doorstep. Arrival is after 4pm, departure before 10am.

Staying at the Duke of Portland Boat house for my 30th was so special. My birthday being in January, it’s always a cold, dark month and I wanted to do something that made my birthday a one to remember. The boat house offered a warm, cosy home from home to hibernate in. We made ample use of the fire and copper bath and I'm not ashamed to say we barely left in the two days we stayed! The only disappointment was having to leave early due to storm Eowyn hitting the morning we were due to depart. The views are gorgeous here and being so close to the water and trees made it very relaxing… I would recommend a visit here if you’re approaching a milestone or a special celebration.

Lovely spot to photograph, parking is on the side of the road but requires you to walk along the road to get a good spot. If you're staying here, this is one of the top photography spots in the area

It's a beautiful place but hard to reach by foot as there is no foot path. Neither there's parking space next to it. Boat ride could/might only give you best vantage point to get pictures shown on the internet.

Had 2 nights here in Dec 22 and it was a great place to stay, very cosy with everything you would need, lake was high so no jetty to fish from. My only problem was the bed was too uncomfortable for me and didn't sleep at all. But besides that it was a great place to stay.
