The Old Mill
Westmorland and Furness
You enter The Old Mill into an open-plan first floor where the living space flows around a central kitchen. A woodburner anchors the sitting area, which opens onto a south-facing terrace via patio doors—the river and garden visible beyond. The kitchen has what you need to cook properly: electric oven and hob, dishwasher, space to work. Three bedrooms are distributed across the building: two on the ground floor (one with two doubles, one with a double), one on the first floor with a kingsize and its own woodburner, and a fourth kingsize on the top floor with an ensuite bathroom featuring a slipper bath. Two further toilets serve the property. There's parking for three cars and a lawned garden, though guests should note the river runs through it unfenced.
The Old Mill sits on the edge of Great Strickland, within reach of Ullswater's lake activities—steamship cruises, sailing, paddleboarding—and the main fell walks of the Lake District, including Helvellyn. To the east, the Pennine hills and Yorkshire Dales offer more walking and cycling routes through quieter country. Lowther Castle is a mile away; the villages of Askham, Pooley Bridge and Glenridding are close by. Essentials like heating, electricity, bed linen, towels and wifi are covered. One pet can stay free. The property is non-smoking.
