Thwaite Bridge House
Westmorland and Furness
View on Google MapsRusland Valley is one of the quieter corners of the Lake District, with little traffic and a distinctly removed feel despite being only a few miles from Coniston Water and Windermere. Thwaite Bridge House sits halfway between Newby Bridge and Hawkeshead, putting it within reach of Grizedale Forest and the walking routes that radiate from there, but far enough from the main tourist thoroughfares to feel genuinely peaceful.
An 18th-century farmhouse with original oak beams, panelling and flagstone floors, the place mixes period character with practical comfort. Downstairs there is a living room with a wood burner, a conservatory, a study, and a kitchen with a full range of appliances for cooking proper meals. Upstairs are four bedrooms—a double with ensuite, another double, a twin and a bunk room—plus a family bathroom and a utility room with washing and tumble-drying facilities. The property sleeps eight and one dog is welcome. Essentials like heating, electricity, bed linen and wifi are provided, and there is plenty of outdoor space: over an acre of lawned garden with two seating areas, one catching morning sun and one positioned for evening light, plus parking for three cars on site.
The valley villages of Satterthwaite and Oxen Park are nearby, each with a pub. The house comes with books and walking guides, games, jigsaws and a piano for indoor days. There are no smoking rules in place.
