About Beech Hill Hotel & Spa
Along Newby Bridge Road, with Windermere's waters spread out below and the fells rising beyond, Beech Hill Hotel & Spa makes the most of one of Cumbria's best-known landscapes. Many of the 57 rooms look straight out over the lake or the surrounding mountains, and the garden gives further reason to linger outdoors before heading in for the evening.
Inside, the spa is a particular draw, with hot tubs, a sauna and an indoor swimming pool for guests who want to unwind after a day on the water or the fells. The restaurant and bar have built a strong reputation for their food, and breakfast, room service and free WiFi are all part of the package. Family rooms are available, and there's a lift for easier access around the building. It's worth noting that some rooms show their age and could do with more consistent upkeep.
The area around the hotel suits walkers and cyclists, with routes threading through the surrounding countryside, and watersports are on hand for those wanting to get out onto the lake itself. A pub and further restaurants sit nearby for evenings out, and free on-site parking makes exploring the wider Windermere area straightforward.

What guests say
I booked Beech Hill Hotel because of its stunning location and incredible lake views. Before booking, I emailed the hotel to ask how I could guarantee a lake-view room with a balcony. They advised me that the only way to guarantee this was to call and book directly, which I did. I also arranged some extras for the room, including rose petals, to make the stay extra special as we were celebrating my partner's birthday and graduation. Unfortunately, when we arrived, our room didn't have a balcony, which was extremely disappointing and took away from the surprise and "wow" factor I had planned. It turned out to be a booking error made when my reservation was taken over the phone. It took around 30 minutes to resolve, and because there were no available balcony rooms for both nights, we had to change rooms after our first night. Although this wasn't the ideal start to our stay, I have to give credit to the team on duty. They did everything they could to put things right, keeping us informed throughout and giving us the option of either staying in the same room for both nights or moving to a room with a hot tub as a goodwill gesture. We chose to move, and I really appreciated how hard they worked to resolve the situation. Aside from the booking error, our stay was fantastic. The rooms we stayed in were lovely, the service throughout the hotel was excellent, the spa facilities were great, and the views over Lake Windermere were breathtaking. There was some building work taking place during our stay, which did affect part of the view, but I was informed about this before booking. The hotel also offered complimentary spa access because of the work, so I felt this was handled honestly and fairly. Overall, I wish the booking issue hadn't happened, as it did impact our first impression. However, the way the staff responded and went above and beyond to make things right really made a difference. I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again and would happily recommend the hotel to others.

My 🇦🇺 wife and I found our way to this nice hotel late on a Tuesday 8th and they had a room for two nights, which we appreciated. Awesome view of the lake and located out of the town, so you’re away from the tourist crowds which are plentiful this time of the year. Be aware there are lots of steps, given the hotel is built on the side of a hill. The lower part of the hotel is currently undergoing renovations/expansion. Nice meals and selection of drinks, but the weird thing I encountered on the first evening, when asking if the Wimbledon tennis could be put on the TV in the bar/reception area instead of the screen showing the weather page, was that only the FIFA World Cup matches could be shown 🤨. Suffice to say, the following day when the British player, Arthur Fery, was playing the team were good enough to put it on while we had some drinks at the bar.

I want to start by saying the staff here are genuinely lovely and apologetic. They are doing their absolute best, and their warm, friendly service is the only reason this isn't a one-star review. However, the operational management and state of the hotel during our stay have been completely unacceptable for a self-proclaimed 4-star spa retreat. To their credit, we were notified prior to booking that the pool was under renovation and that we could use the spa instead. What we were not warned about was the sheer scale of the active, construction across the property. The lakeside location is gorgeous, but the romantic view is severely undercut by construction materials, heavy machinery, and debris strewn right across the foreground. The absolute dealbreaker occurred this morning. Between 7:30 and 8:00 AM, we were jarred awake by deafening, wall-shaking banging sounds that felt like someone was using a battering ram on our bedroom wall. We later found out they were actively demolishing Room 60 - literally right next door to us. Beyond the construction, the room itself is showing its age. Our bathroom desperately needs a refresh; the showerhead won't stay in place and constantly slips down while you’re trying to wash. Final verdict? A 4-star hotel with "spa" in its name carries an implicit promise of peace, relaxation, and tranquility. Carrying out high-noise structural demolition directly adjacent to occupied guest rooms at 7:30 in the morning isn't just frustrating, it is deeply unprofessional. If you are looking for a peaceful getaway, save your money and look elsewhere until their building works are entirely finished.

Some of the reviews worried me, but our stay has been perfect. We booked the wrong week and they had no reason to help us out during peak season, but they did. The rooms were great with amazing views. The breakfast is amazing value and the food in the evening is great too - not high end, but totally fine. The spa is clean and well equipped and we loved it. The service and staff are fantastic too. They are refurbishing outside and when it’s done we will be back!
