About Duke of Albany

Travellers after a no-frills base near the Dorset coast, rather than a quiet retreat, will get on well with the Duke of Albany. This is a pub-hotel at heart, on Park Street in Weymouth, and it makes no apology for that: there's a bar on site pouring a decent range of ales and wines, and weekends bring karaoke and live bands, so anyone wanting an early night should factor that in.

Rooms are straightforward and en-suite, each with free WiFi, a fridge and drinks available in-room, and family rooms are available for those travelling with children. Breakfast is served on site, and reception operates around the clock, useful for late arrivals off the coast road or after a night out. The overall feel is friendly rather than polished, with staff regularly singled out for being welcoming and helpful.

Outside the door, Weymouth offers walking and cycling routes, watersports, fishing and golf nearby, plus a good spread of pubs and restaurants within easy reach. It suits people wanting a sociable, well-priced stay close to the beach rather than a boutique escape.

Rooms are basic but serviceable and worth the money, the pub the rooms are above Is your typical locals boozer. They have kareoke and a live band on Friday and Saturday night so if you have kids it could be a problem but the pub closes at midnight so you won't be kept up past then. It's location is very close to the station and the seafront including a few local food places so can't complain at all about that. Would definitely come again.

Wasn't expecting much as last minute reservation, but what a gem lovely little pub easy to find, John the manager sorted me out with a street parking permit, the room was spotless, not huge but a double bed & ensuite shower & toilet, free WiFi, fridge in room. I stopped Fri & sat night & John mentioned that there was music in the bar both nights but didn't disturb me, the staff & customers in the pub were all very welcoming. I would definitely stay here again next time I visit Weymouth 👍

Superb location. Clean & tidy room. Very friendly manager. Great pub, cheaper than most, serving good ales & wine. Could do with a nonslip shower mat but otherwise no complaints at all.
