A Baxtergate hotel in Whitby known for its generous carvery and lively bar, with parking handy for Whitby Abbey and the coast.

About The George Hotel

The George Hotel's carvery is the thing people talk about most - tender meats, fresh vegetables and portions that don't skimp, served alongside a broad drinks selection in a bar that gets properly lively when sport is on. It's worth noting the food doesn't always arrive piping hot, but the atmosphere and the staff, who are consistently friendly and helpful, make up for it. The hotel sits on Baxtergate in Whitby, with parking on hand for those heading out to Whitby Abbey or along the coast.

Rooms come with en-suite bathrooms, drinks and family options for those travelling with children, and the place is kept clean throughout. Breakfast is included, and there's a snack bar and packed lunches for anyone heading out for the day, plus 24 hour reception and luggage storage for early arrivals or late departures. A games room and meeting rooms round out the facilities, useful whether you're filling an evening or working during the stay.

Outside, Whitby offers golf, fishing, cycling and walking country, along with watersports, and there are pubs, restaurants and entertainment within easy reach. It's a straightforward base for exploring the town and coastline, built around a hotel that does simple things - a good meal, a decent room, a warm welcome - reliably well.

Great bar for all sorts of things. Watching your favourite football teams, karaoke and just generally meeting up with friends. Reasonable prices considering your at the seaside. The staff are friendly and helpful. It's our go to place for meeting up at the start of the day and before we go back to our hotel. Never stayed overnight

Amazing delicious carvery. Succulent joints with crispy potatoes and delicious northern gravy and horseradish sauce. Massive crispy Yorkshire pudding. Stuffing was lovely too. Josh & Buddy were really friendly and kind. Thanks for looking after me. I’ll be back! 💚🙏

Spent a fortune on this and looks great, even have sky sports which costs a fortune for bars! No WiFi (except if you’re a resident)! 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️ absolutely shocking phone signal in this area so wifi is imperative! Also the Doom bar was cloudy and tasted weird. Won’t return!

Tasty food but cold . It said on the menu to request if you want vegetarian gravy , so we asked and he said it would be a couple of mins . It never came and no-one told us it wasant coming . No explanation or nothing, just say if you havant got it in . Its really that simple . Bad management and we won't be going again when we visit which we do 3 times a year . . Just plain rude
