About The Stables at Whitby
Walk into a room at The Stables at Whitby and you'll find an en-suite bathroom, a spot for your dog if you've brought one, and drinks laid on for when you settle in. There are 10 rooms in total, including a bridal suite for wedding guests, and an accessible option for those who need it. Some rooms can feel a little stuffy in warmer weather, worth bearing in mind if you're sensitive to that sort of thing.
Downstairs there's a restaurant and bar serving food that guests consistently praise for its generous portions, with breakfast offering a proper range of choices and kids' meals available for families. Outdoor seating and a garden give extra space to relax, and free on-site parking makes arriving by car straightforward, with a park-and-ride service nearby too. Staff are noted for being friendly and helpful throughout a stay.
The inn sits on Guisborough Road, within reach of Whitby Abbey and the North York Moors National Park, with walking and cycling country close by. Golf, fishing and watersports are all available nearby, and there's no shortage of pubs and restaurants in the area for evenings out. A lift and 24-hour reception round out the practical side of things, alongside meeting rooms for anyone combining business with the trip.

What guests say
I recently stayed for a couple of nights and was really impressed with everything. The room was spotless and felt brand new, which made for a comfy stay. The service was fantastic—warm welcomes and clear communication about the menu, especially with dietary needs. I did notice a few too many dogs around, but that didn’t take away from the overall experience. I’ll definitely be back for more!I

We were really disappointed with our stay, especially considering this is advertised as a 4-star hotel and the price we paid. The location is beautiful and the communal areas make a lovely first impression, which is why I’ve given two stars rather than one. Unfortunately, everything else fell well below expectations. Our room was unbearably hot with virtually no ventilation. Even though it wasn’t particularly hot outside, the room was stifling. I’m currently pregnant and became so overheated during the night that I was sick. There was simply no way to cool the room down, making it incredibly uncomfortable. The room itself was also very basic for the price. The tea and coffee tray was minimal, there was no room service available, and the cleanliness wasn’t what you’d expect from a 4-star hotel. The shower had a significant build-up of limescale, and the toilet pan was dirty when we arrived. The food was one of the biggest disappointments. Before our stay I’d read reviews praising the restaurant, so we were genuinely looking forward to eating there. Unfortunately, the quality was nowhere near what we expected from a 4-star hotel. The menu sounded promising, but the food itself was very basic and lacked any real care or flavour. My lasagne was dry, and overall it felt more like a budget pub meal than the standard the hotel advertises. We both felt unwell after eating there on our first night, and that experience was enough for us to decide not to spend any more money in the restaurant. We ate out for the rest of our stay instead. Breakfast wasn’t any better. My partner ordered eggs and bacon on toast and was served just one overcooked poached egg with two pieces of undercooked bacon, before being told he needed to make his own toast. My own poached eggs were also overcooked. By our final morning, despite having already paid for breakfast, we chose to go elsewhere because we simply couldn’t face eating there again. The service throughout our stay was equally disappointing. Nobody checked whether our meals were satisfactory, there was very little attention to guests, and on our final morning I even said good morning to the male manager, who completely ignored me. We also spoke to several other guests during our stay who shared similar views about the food and overall experience, so it was clear we weren’t the only ones left disappointed. Overall, the experience simply didn’t reflect either the price we paid or the hotel’s 4-star rating. It’s a real shame because the setting is lovely and the communal areas have plenty of character, but the rooms, cleanliness, food and customer service all fell well below expectations. Sadly, we wouldn’t return or recommend it based on our experience.

Lovely setting, but you need transport to get there. Definately family friendly. Pretty standard food all good but nothing great. Families are probably its target and would definately do that well. Food took a long time and not sure why. The young lady that looked after us was excellent. Over all nothing great but equally nothing to complain about.

Food is great quality and quantity. The staff are really friendly and helpful. Very dog friendly. The setting is comfortable and well decorated. There was an outside space that looked like a small park. Well worth a visit. We will return next time we are on holiday up there.
