Whitby's coast and North Yorkshire's countryside are easily reached from Newholm, a quiet village where Cleveden Cottage sits within walking distance of The Beehive Inne. The cottage itself dates from 1850 and retains original features throughout—low ceilings, a steep staircase with handrail, fireplaces and period detailing give it genuine age rather than pastiche. Taller guests will need to duck on the stairs; the three entrance steps and six garden steps are part of its character.
Ground floor rooms centre on a lounge with open fire and a separate dining room with wood-burner. The kitchen is spacious enough for proper cooking, opening directly onto the garden. Upstairs are two double bedrooms and a bathroom with shower over the bath. Two beds sleep four; a highchair and travel cot are available. Wi-Fi, electricity, bed linen and towels come as standard, and one dog stays free of charge.
The real asset is the enclosed garden—a south-facing sun trap with patio seating, stone steps up to a raised lawn, barbecue and furniture. On-site parking means you can leave the car and explore from here, or settle in for a quiet break by the coast. No smoking inside.
