About The Wilson Arms - Inn

Sneaton lies just outside Whitby, close enough for coast and countryside days out but quiet enough to feel like a proper retreat from the town's summer crowds. The Wilson Arms - Inn sits on Beacon Way here, a small hotel built around a working pub rather than a corporate hotel shell, with seven rooms above a restaurant and bar that do a steady trade with locals and visitors alike.

Rooms are simple and well kept, with in-room drinks and free WiFi as standard, and breakfast included to set guests up for a day on the North Yorkshire coast. The kitchen has built a name locally for generous, straightforward pub food, particularly fish and chips and chicken parmo, served at reasonable prices in a genuinely friendly atmosphere. Staff run a concierge service alongside the usual front-desk duties, and there's luggage storage for those arriving before check-in or leaving after checkout.

Practical extras cover most needs: free on-site parking, meeting rooms for anyone combining business with the trip, and a pets-welcome policy for guests travelling with dogs. Whitby itself, with its harbour and abbey, is a short journey away, making the inn a workable base for exploring both the town and the surrounding coastline.

Perfect four night stay. We called into the Wilson Arms after the cottage we had originally booked proved to be unsuitable. We were able to book a couple of nights in their caravan and two nights in the pub. We were not disappointed. The rooms are beautifully furnished and spacious. Breakfasts and evening meals were excellent. Well cooked and plentiful. The pub is in a very quiet village so you will get a good night's sleep. All of the staff were friendly and helpful. I highly recommend The Wilson Arms.

Stayed in a cottage about 10 minutes from the Wilson Arms and ate here most evenings. They had a good choice of tasty food on the menu and the Biscoff waffle was to die for. The staff were friendly and we felt relaxed, even though we had 2 dogs with us. We met several people who said the rooms were comfy and good value too.

Although we only had Sunday lunch here it was delicious, however we do feel that this establishment is missing an opportunity, we arrived Saturday and on arrival we unpacked walked the dog and would have called here for refreshments but the pub was closed. On the Monday we visited Whitby with the intention on calling back here for lunch only to find that the establishment does not open until 6. We were staying opposite the restaurant and saw various people come to the front door and walked away as the place was closed. Disappointed!!

This is a great little gem just off the beaten track. Fantastic rooms and a lovely English breakfast, food on an evening was excellent and the staff are friendly and helpful. Parking is no problem and you have a great view of Whitby Abby in the distance.
